I feed several sizes of birds ranging from small finches up to blue Jays and large doves. Dome will rise a maximum of 4 inches above tray. Only the smallest of birds would be willing to fly between dome and tray. I placed this in a tree to make it easier for birds to access. So far the dome has scared away any bird trying to fly to the seed.
Open space is too small for larger birds ie cardinals to perch
Appears well made, but design makes filling with dried mealworms, at the pace that my birds eat, very cumbersome. You literally have to remove the tray, fill it, try to put it back on without spilling (you do spill). Hook too small for shepherds hook. Not worth it.
Broke after less than 3 mos.
It is adjustable to keep out larger birds like starlings. The baffle discourages squirrels. Our first has lasted over 20 years.
This product allows me to hang seed or mealworms or round suet cylinders for a variety of bird needs. The dome protects the food from rain & discourages squirrels. The dome is also adjustable to keep bigger birds from hogging all the food. My only criticism would be it is a bit on the small side.
I was looking forward to receiving this feeder and imagine my surprise when I took it out of the box and the rod that travels through the feeder was bent, causing the umbrella part to hang crooked over the base. It kinda defeats the purpose of having the top over it to protect the food and birds from the elements.
Have had this for about 4-5 months now. I put vaseline on the pole its hanging on and I have never had a squirrel get in ( and I have a lot). Also have lots of Cardinals and they are in it all the time. The large dome top keeps the rain out. And easy to dump and refill.
Total disappointment to me. First of all, it's very small. The mechanism that keeps the dome from falling down failed within a few weeks making it unusable and dangerous for any smaller bird to be injured or worse. It fell from the pole more than once and cracked the dish. All in all, poor and went into the recycle bin.
I really like this dome feeder. It is easy to clean and you get a full view of birds feeding. My small birds love the protection of the dome. It is not large but I have seen 3 birds feeding at the same time. It It is useful to reinforce the tray with a little duck-tape (put a piece where the base meets the rod and a bit up the rod) and tie the feeder down to a balcony or other areas that may experience high winds.
