It really helps with the squirrels!!
They have figured out how to stretch themselves down from the top. However, it takes a lot of effort and they can't sustain it very long. They usually fall off
They have figured out how to stretch themselves down from the top. However, it takes a lot of effort and they can't sustain it very long. They usually fall off pretty quickly. I figure that they deserve the little bit of food they can get and it's funny to watch them. Though, I really haven't seen them doing it to the new one. I need to check the lid for scratches. I love watching all the birds using it. This is my second one. I bought the red one years ago. The plastic cylinder finally cracked around the section where the holder inserted into the cylinder. But, it lasted a long time. Lol, plus the top of the red one was all scratched up from the squirrels trying to hold on. I think I like the blue one much better.

I bought this exact feeder 34 years ago and it's still in service! Squirrels have knawed on the top, even bent the wire, but were unable to access food or have the feeder drop. In the last 7 to 10 years or so, pigeons have located my little backyard paradise. They are able to hang on to the end of the perches, perches hanging down, and reach the seed, but they usually dump all the seed out in one day when they are here. If I take the feeder down for a few days the pigeons won't stop by, but particularly my Cardinals then aren't getting any treats. It's become a bad situation. I'm going to retire this feeder even though it's still functional, and replace it with the "Seed Saver Domed bird feeder, 10-in" which I believe was originally called the Cardinal feeder by Droll Yankees years ago. If it keeps the pigeons out, it will be a win.

Birds don't like it
The yankee flipper I had for 15+ years always had a lot of birds. A squirrel chewed through the tube (that I already replaced once) but you don't offer the tubes

Using a ladder to maintain, nice it last a few days before the next filling. Only thing is the top is hard to remove. Eventually will have the wire support straight

We where ready for a new one and they are still build the same as years ago which says a lot about the quality. Highly recommended, will last almost a lifetime!
