The Exo Terra Cave Reptile Hideout could be used under water, but over time the water would wear on the finish, causing it to erode, and then it would no longer be suitable to use.

The Exo Terra X-Large cave is well made, heavy and would work nicely for small reptiles. Small opening so limits the size of who can enter it, the rear of the cave is higher for curling up and sleeping. Gave it 4 out of 5 stars only because the opening won’t fit a turtle unless it’s under a year old. The 6 year old box turtle was curious and ended up tunneling under it thru the substrate to get into it. Then it was sitting on top of her shell so not a feasible hideout for her, unfortunately.

I have a four year-old axolotl in a 75 gallon tank. finding decor that is large enough for him not to eat and large enough for him to hide in has been difficult, but this product is perfectly sized for him to get cozy in and the edges are smooth, so I don’t have to worry about him getting cut on them. This product appears to be relatively sturdy and has been in my tank for about two weeks and I am seeing no transfer of paint or any chipping or damage to the product itself. I like that this product looks natural, and stays at the bottom of the tank.

Not only can they go in it now, as they like to do, but in summer when they move outside to a large house, they can sunbathe on top, n go in to get out of the sun when they get too hot. . I like that this hide is actually big enough for my ball python. I haven't seen her use it yet though, but snakes need time, she'll use it eventually. One of my gripes with this type of hide is that it's hard to clean. I would have preferred if the inside was finished in like a smooth resin, as it is now it's annoying to clean. Overall pretty happy with it.

This a good solid weight and shape. Merlin (the box turtle) loves to push this around his enclosure. The opening isn't quite tall enough for him to crawl into the cave part but he does seem to enjoy having a new item to nose around. It is a nice texture and looks classy, for a rock in the enclosure.
