Used this product with the newest horse in our barn, which had come from someone’s backyard and hadn’t received the best nutrition. With the weather being unpredictable and knowing that better nutrition could cause tummy aches, we gave this a go! I will say that the product does what it says. It really helped to make our horse’s poop smell less potent? He usually produced very stinky (acidic smelling) poop due to the low quality hay and feed he was being fed. Yes, I know all poop smells but if you’re a ruminant owner….you know they’re not supposed to stink like a gas station bathroom. Know what I mean? The size of the pellets was good and the scoop provided was great! Made the dosing a whole lot easier. I will say that the pellets don’t smell good at all, so I made sure to mix them well in his feed. As you open the tub each time, a huge scent of medicine hits ya right in the face. Other than that, a good product from a trusted company in very attractive packaging.

Overall, I like this product and would recommend it to a friend. My gelding is a notoriously picky eater, and getting him to eat these pellets with his grain was a bit of a chore, at first. I'm not sure why, because they smell fine. After completing the recommended 30 days, I can see a small difference in the quality of his poops. He has chronic diarrhea and intermittent fecal water, and while I think this product helped some, he is still getting diarrhea and fecal water about once a week. To be fair, the weather is changing, and he is sensitive to temperature swings, so the product might be helping more than I'm giving it credit for. I think it's worth trying if your horse is dealing with gut issues. I will probably move on to something else, as I don't think this is the right solution for my guy.

I have three older horses, they can use a little help in the digestive department. The product comes in a handy little tub. The tub has a handle to carry it. That's appreciated since I usually have my hands full in the barn. The pellets are small, about an inch and have no adverse smell I could detect. It has an included scoop. For my first use, I spread one scoop between all three, so far so good. All three ate it without mixing it in with something else. My small gripe is with the tub. I'm a senior as well and had a bit of a problem opening the tub, finally had to use scissors to pop the lid, you could hear a vacuum.

Great for Gut Health and Ulcer Prevention

I have a 2 year old quarter horse gelding that I began using the Gastric Health pellets on a few weeks ago as a preventative measure for ulcers and to promote overall gut health. Brady enjoyed the winter off but will resume traveling for horse shows in the next few months so it is important to me to have him on supplements to help support the stresses that travel and training can bring. Brady has eaten the pellets with no issues and no complaints from him about flavor or taste. I enjoy that they are in a pellet form versus a liquid as it is less messy and much easier to use over the winter in the Midwest when most liquid supplements freeze. One pail comes with a scoop and lasts 30 days, very easy to just add to the daily ration balancer.

Palatable Antacid for my Ulcer-prone Arab

My horse Sparky (23 year old Arabian gelding) was diagnosed via endoscopy with moderate to severe gastric ulcers. He was hospitalized for several days, and sent home with a very expensive (IYKYK) prescription to be administered daily for eight weeks. Treatment was successful and subsequent endoscopy confirmed the ulcers were healed. I definitely do NOT want the ulcers to recur, so I asked my vet if I should try giving him Farnam Gastric Health pellets. She gave the OK and said she felt the Sea Buckthorn in it would be especially helpful. Sparky loves these pellets and readily eats them. I add them to his daily mash of soaked hay pellets and senior feed. I taught chemistry for decades and can confirm that the calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate ingredients in these pellets have proven antacid and pH-buffering properties. I'd especially recommend this product for any horse with a history of gastric ulcers, and for horses who may be undergoing stress of any kind - shipping, showing, loss or addition of companions, change of stabling, nearby construction noise, fireworks, etc. As for Sparky, so far, so good! No sign or symptom of ulcer recurrence at all.

Farnams name speaks for itself. This is a company with good quality products that care about the health of the animals that they service. These gastric pellets are easy to feed, easy to measure and reasonable in costs. They offer a great supplement to equine that may have occassional gastric upset and ours seem to view them as a treat. We use as a top dress and it works out great. The horses gobble them up and they're a great aid in times of stress.

I would highly recommend the Farnam Gastric Health Pellets Horse Supplements for horses who have stomach issues. One of my horses and pony's stomachs were always gurgling when I fed them and after. After giving them these supplements only a few times, their stomachs are quiet and they both act much happier.

I waited a few weeks to review this product to truly see what I think about it. I haven't noticed a significant difference in my mare since starting it. Maybe that's a good thing and she doesn't have digestive upset. She eats it well so I have no complaints there.

I have been using this product since I received it at the end of March and I have seen a great noticeable difference in my horses. One of them was extremely hard to cinch and since I've started him on the gastric pellets that has gone away and I am able to cinch without an issue.
