By nature, cats eat primarily to satisfy their energy needs. We recommend a free - choice portion controlled method of feeding for most cats. Just put the recommended daily portion in your cat’s dish each morning. Your cat will eat it throughout the day, as it needs nourishment. This chart will help in determining the right amount for your cat.
Do not mix with your current food. We recommend a straight changeover to Feline Caviar, feeding 1/2 the recommended amount for the first day.

firstly - I am only reviewing the Free Spirit (Chicken/Salmon) and Leaping Free Spirit (Venison/Lamb) versions of this dry food. The Bison flavor has Yeast and the Ocean flavor has Canola Oil and personally those are two ingredients I avoid and that are in my opinion cheap fillers with no nutritional benefit. Canola Oil especially I avoid. Although I don't personally buy into the whole seed oils claims about how bad they are for health, I do know that Canola Oil is indeed inflammatory and harmful to the body. It's very acidic in the body and is a very low quality oil that is mostly GMO at this point. Yeast isn't terrible, but I avoid it when I have the option which thankfully with Feline Caviar they do have other options with neither of those ingredients! Thank you so much Feline Caviar for making such high quality kibble with overall great ingredients and the best part, NO NATURAL FLAVORS. It is next to near impossible to find a kibble out there that does not have any natural flavors in it. Natural flavors can have 100s of different ingredients in them and no one knows but the lab who makes them what goes into these natural flavors. My cat, who is very picky, gets so excited when he hears the cat food bag and loves this dry food more than anything :)

I like that this kibble seems to derive its vitamins and minerals more from whole foods, rather than a long list of synthetics. That being said, I really only use kibble as a supplement for my cat, to either wet food or raw. Yaphah really likes this kibble and always runs to the counter for it in the morning (her kibble rations are usually in the morning). I normally give her a few tablespoons. She’ll gobble most of it up, leave for a minute, and then come back and sit on the counter expectantly. I’ll throw another tablespoon or two in her dish, but she won’t eat it. She looks at me like she wants something more. So I give her some wet food and she gobbles that, and then doesn’t come back until lunch or dinner. Like I said, the kibble is more of a snack and I believe her body knows this, which is why she still sits around waiting for wet or raw after I give this to her. I have given her Victor kibble before when I wasn’t able to get Feline Caviar, and she wouldn’t touch it, so she obviously likes this better than the other. She also experiences no vomiting/regurgitation with this brand of kibble either, and her fur is dander-free, so I will continue to keep this on my shelf.

I do not know if words will properly convey the excitement and the extreme devotion Spicey already exhibits towards Feline Caviar. When we first received the bag, we opened it together. Spying inside, we witnessed tempting dark round kibbles that immediately gave off a deep, rich scent ~ Almost like chocolate but much much better (which is good because cats cannot have chocolate! Besides, I would have had to fight her for it and she's the one with the claws). Spice pretty much sticks with her one and only (up until now! Shoot .. does this mean she is cheating?). In the past I would be disappointed when I offered her a taste of a new kibble and she takes a couple bites, shrugs her little kitty shoulders and just walks away. Unimpressed. From bite one of Feline Caviar, Spicey had a new love! This is such a different reaction than I have been used to. Us silly humans always get so excited to get something new for our pets and wait breathlessly to see how they like the new item. Nine times out of 10 ... they don't care. This was TEN! Along with the rich kibbles, the aroma and, quite obviously, the taste, Spicey'D is also enjoying the satisfying crunch. I hear it all the time now -- morning, afternoon, night, later night, even later night, early morning, and so on. It pretty much lulls me to sleep and then ready to jump out of bed, for a day of cuddles, the next morning. I am thrilled to have found something (been able to try something ~ I cannot take the credit for finding it on my own!) that makes her just as happy as it makes me to see her this happy. And that's all we want for our babies.

I recently tried the Feline Caviar Limited Ingredient Diet Free Spirit Holistic Entrée Grain-Free cat food, and I couldn’t be happier with it. What I love most is that it works for both my cats and kittens, so I don’t have to buy separate foods. They all enjoyed it right away, which says a lot because some of my cats can be picky eaters. It gives me peace of mind knowing it’s a limited ingredient, grain-free formula, so I feel good about the quality of what they’re eating. It’s wholesome, nutritious, and easy on their stomachs. I’ve noticed that mealtime has become something they all look forward to. Overall, this food has been a win in my household, and I’ll definitely keep using it for all my cats and kittens.

This is a holistic formulation with limited ingredients, and is grain-free, which is what I like about it. As for the cat, the first day I was worried because he vomited twice, but after that there have been no more episodes, and he absolutely loves the food, and evidenced by the fact that he completely emptied his bowl the third day, leaving not so much as a crumb, which I have never seen him do before, and he is 18 now soI thought that was remarkable. He avidly eatsit when I feed him now.

It is said that most cats don’t like change, and I’m seeing that in my two. Have tried to mix this in with their regular food as a treat to start, but they do a pretty remarkable job of picking around it to get to their normal food. Hoped to switch to this due to it being hairball remedy, otherwise I’d abandon the attempt. Gave it three stars since I don’t think it’s the fault of the food, just my picky eaters!
High quality nutrition

Good option if cats will eat it.

Like the idea of this food having limited, good ingredients. My cats, however, have taken a bit longer to "like" it. Started off by mixing a small amount of it in with their other food and found them eating around it. More recently though, they have started to eat it and seem to like it.
