FIDA FD94 Mini-25 Mini Retractable Dog Leash, X-Small: 8-ft long, 1/4-in wide, Red

My two Yorkies are both showing signs of collapsed tracheas, largely due to their pulling on their leashes when we go for walks on sidewalks throughout our neighborhood. I decided to try a retractable leash but was concerned that a long one would be dangerous since they are very reactive when other dogs bark or walk by on the other side of the street. I was especially concerned that in their excitement, they might lunge into the road and get hit by an oncoming car. This 8 ft retractable leash was long enough to mostly avoid the coughing that comes with their collapsing trachea, but short enough that I could reach forward, grab the leash itself and quickly pull them in. They are each about 10 lbs, and my greatest concern is this: when they start leash pulling in their excitement, the lead portion of the retractable leash might detach from the hardware and put them in danger. I have not experienced that, but I'm always cognizant of that possibility given the low price charged for this retractable leash. I know that price is not necessarily indicactive of quality, but it's a concern nonetheless.
