Bad Kit?

I purchased this item to test the aquarium water in two fish tanks I have in my middle school classroom. After the new tanks were properly cycled, I introduced fish, and soon after, noticed a spike in the level of nitrate in both tanks. The tanks are not overpopulated, and the fish in the tanks are not over fed. I have been doing water changes regularly, and noticing spikes in the levels of nitrates soon after even drastic water changes were completed. The filtered tapwater shows no signs of nitrates when introduced to the tanks. I took water samples to a local aquarium store and they tested the water samples and found no trace of nitrates using two different tests. I’m not confident these test kits are accurate and they’ve honestly created a ton of worry over the last few weeks. I would not recommend these test kits for an introductory hobbyist like myself. They are misleading and not accurate.
