Fluval Spec Aquarium Kit, 2.6-gal

I added a betta to a community tank and it was being badly bullied, so I ran out to pick up a nano tank for it. Bought a cheap Top Fin and was very dissatisfied, so went with this. It's very nicely made and well designed. Set up is easy and it's a sharp looking system. It's whisper quiet. There were a couple of blips. First, the instructions didn't point out that the sump filtration system doesn't work if the tank is overfilled--the water simply flows over the top into the pump compartment without going through the filtration material. Once I removed some water it worked fine. Second, the instructions recommend replacing the biological filtration material every 6-8 months. That's ridiculous. Biological material occasionally needs cleaned in dechlorinated water but should never need replaced. I have some in other tanks that I've used for decades. Shame on Fluval for giving bad advice just to sell media.
