Nice quality tank. Decent size for a big finned Betta fish after some modifications. The light seems great for plants so far, not 100% sure the filter is doing a good job...I may take out separator & install sponge filter but I’ll give it a few more months.

  • A home for Cliff

    By on Top 100 Contributor

I ordered the Fluval Spec 2.6 gallon tank for my Betta, Cliff. I'm normally leery of tanks with built in filtration systems, but I am really liking this tank! It has a sleek and modern look and was very easy to set up. The pump is very quiet, and adjustable - it has a little knob on it with a + and - sign, but comes pre-set to the highest setting that's too strong for a Betta. For a Betta, I would recommend turning the pump all the way down. Cliff has no problems with the pump/current when I turned the pump all the way down. The LED lights are bright and there is a blue light/evening setting. I choose to use silk plants, but I believe the LED lights would be strong/bright enough for live I ordered the Fluval Spec 2.6 gallon tank for my Betta, Cliff. I also bought a 25 watt Hydor heater from Chewy with this tank, and it fits perfectly in the rear compartment with the pump. Bettas are tropical fish, and they do need a heater and a low flow filter and they should have at least a 2.5 gallon tank. This tank is an excellent choice for a Betta, and I would recommend it - especially if it's on sale. … more

  • Quality nano kit

    By on

My Fluval Spec V currently sustains a betta, anerite snail, and a few cherry shrimp along with slow growing plants. Set up so far has been great, with a few modifications to the filter to keep the water flow betta friendly. There are many online tutorials that explain these modifications. The light has been sufficient for my low tech set-up. The design is sleek and clean. Filter chamber can be tailored to various media types. I exchanged the carbon for Purigen and the water is crystal clear. Would definitely buy again and recommend!

  • Perfect Nano for a Planted Aquarium

    By on

The tank is perfect for a nano planted aquarium, a lot of reviews stated the pump has too strong of a flow. This isn’t the case, the flow is perfect and the pump has a toggle to alter the rate of flow, I run mine at full and direct towards the top to direct water in a circle towards the sump. I have rottalla, hippurdoides, and dwarf hair in it now, I tried glossostigma but without pressurized C02 it’s almost impossible to carpet. The light is more than powerful enough to grow plants, I have it set on a timer running 9 hours today any longer than that and it starts to grow a lot of green hair algae. I have 1 German blue ram, 2 otocinculus, and 4 cherry shrimp. I dose 1ml excel daily, .5ml The tank is perfect for a nano planted aquarium, a lot of reviews stated the pump has too strong of a flow. It’s an awesome tank and I would recommend it to anyone. I bought the Marina 25w heater and it fits perfect and keeps the temp at 76. Only modification I would recommend is a simple timer for the light. … more

  • Good looking but dysfunctional

    By on

This aquarium is really good-looking and fits nicely on a file cabinet next to my desk. But, it is structurally-problematic for fish, especially Betas. The filter vent and flow are at the very top of the tank, requiring you to fill the tank almost to its edge (to keep it running) and making the water surface so turbulent that fish can't catch food to eat it before the filter swallows it. If they lowered the filtration equipment, things might improve. But, I am returning the product.

  • Brutal hard lighting

    By on

I have 2 of these tanks. My biggest issue is the light. Horrible hard excruciating light. Completely unnatural and it freeks my betta out. Why on earth did Fluval believe a harsh light on a nano tank was a great thing? Also, the light does not pivot so it can be moved when cleaning, it has to be removed. The tank is nice but that lighting is terribly harsh. There are only 2 settings - blinding and a blue light but to get to the blue, you have to go through the blinding stage.

  • Gorgeous, perfect size.

    By on

I absolutely love this tank. I have 2. Filtration system works wonders, just have to modify a bit for a betta. Love the lights - grows plants so well and shows off the color of my betta. The only annoying thing is the light on top, which has to be removed to get to the lid. Super easy to clean and maintain. Would buy another.
