To secure this stake into the ground so almost no dog can budge it, install this like you are setting a fence post. Dig a 36 inch deep, by 18 inch wide hole, pour in a bag of "Quickcrete Concrete", add water, use this stake to mix/penetrate the water into the concrete mix (Quickcrete begins to harden in 20 minutes, so don't delay) and insert this stake fully into the concrete. You might find yourself sitting there for 10 or 15 minutes holding this stake in place waiting for the Quickcrete to firm up enough around the stake before you can let go of it, but once it is set, you only have to allow the stake to rest (without holding, of course) an additional 24 hours and the concrete mix will be hardened enough that you can begin using your newly IMMOVABLE tie out stake. Just passing along a tip I learned from owning mastiff dogs on a horse farm. This worked so good for me on that farm, that I'm now ordering one of these for the front of my new house in the suburbs (and setting it in Quickcrete concrete) so my dog can enjoy spending time - safely tethered on a heavy 20 foot cable leash - visiting with neighbors walking by, and lounging, whilst I do yard work in the front of my house. He gets so forlorn watching me through the window when I'm tending my front yard and chatting with neighbors, so I'm very excited to get another one of these stakes set up so he can safely join me. Remember to never leave any dog tied out unattended, or without access to clean drinking water, or shade, for any amount of time.
