Uses

Furosemide is a diuretic used to remove excess fluid from the body. It's indicated in the treatment of congestive heart failure, some other heart diseases, pulmonary edema, certain kidney diseases, high blood pressure, high potassium level in the blood, fluid in the abdomen, and certain kinds of tissue swelling.

Possible Side Effects

Dehydration with excessive thirst and increased or decreased urine production have been reported. Electrolyte imbalances, often with rapid heart rate, weakness, depression, vomiting, and restlessness are also possible. If you see any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately. Rarely, pets may see an increase in blood glucose level, anemia, pale gums, tiredness, or weakness. A decrease in white blood cells, (making your pet more susceptible to infections) and stomach or intestinal disorders (with vomiting or diarrhea) are also possible, but rare.

Drug & Food Interactions

Consult your veterinarian before using Furosemide with any other medications, including vitamins and supplements

Precautions

Do not use in pets with known allergies to Furosemide or sulfa drugs. Furosemide will cause your pet to urinate more often. Your pet may have more accidents and need to go outside more. Use with caution in pets with kidney disease and diabetes. Do not use in animals with the inability to produce urine, progressive kidney disease, electrolyte imbalances, dehydration, liver disease, diabetes mellitus, vomiting, or diarrhea. FAQ

What is Furosemide Syrup?

Furosemide Syrup is primarily used to treat heart failure and pulmonary edema (lung fluid). It is also used to treat some electrolyte imbalances, such as high calcium and high potassium levels. Furosemide Syrup is a diuretic that blocks salt and fluid absorption in the kidney tubules to cause an increase in urine output.

What are the benefits of Furosemide Syrup?

  • A diuretic-saluretic for prompt relief of edema.
  • A high degree of efficacy, low-inherent toxicity and a high therapeutic index.
  • A rapid onset of action and of comparatively short duration.

How is this medication given?

Give Furosemide Syrup exactly as directed by your veterinarian.

This medication is given by mouth. Never stop giving Furosemide Syrup suddenly unless your veterinarian instructs you to. Always speak to your veterinarian if you have questions about how to give this medication.

How does this medication work?

Furosemide works by increasing the amount of salt and water that the kidneys remove from the blood. This extra salt and water is then passed out through the urine.

Not the same as the brand name

By GenericVsBrand on Oct 19, 2021

After some period of time we noticed that the generic syrup did not last as long as the brand name. We even timed it and seen our dogs response. With the generic her coughs returned after 5-5.5 hours and with the brand name the coughs did not begun until after 8 hours. I'm sure the generic works great for other pets, however in our case it did not.

    Great Product, Wonderful Price

By ChiChi on Oct 6, 2021

After seeing our Vet and getting ChiChi's medical requirements, I ordered our second month's medications from Chewy at a very large savings. The process was very easy and the medicines we received were exactly the same that we got from our Vet. We are very pleased with the quality, price and delivery from Chewy.

    Easier than pills

By stewcat on Mar 23, 2021

This made all the difference. Cat would spit out the tiny pill I was giving her, thereby defeating giving her meds. I'd find the pills all over the house, like she'd wait till I wasn't around to spit it out. Her breathing has become better, not so moist and raspy.

    Medication for my dog

By Rose on May 2, 2020

Even though it’s taking a little longer to receive packages, this did show up fairly fast after Chewy got the prescription from the veterinarian.

    Furosemide

By ChewyGirl on Nov 21, 2019

My dog was diagnosed with heart murmur and Degenerate valve heart disease. Furosemide was prescribed along with two other medications and I found this to be easier to dispense than a pill that was often detected and not swallowed. Also if she has another fainting episode this would be the quickest and easiest way to get the necessary medicine into her. I wish all dog medicines were liquid because they don’t like the taste of taking pills.

    Love Chewy!

By Meadow on Sep 12, 2019

I have been using Chewy auto ship for two years for my cat food, now I am using it for my cats medication. My Veterinarian doesn’t carry the liquid Furosemide, which I prefer and Chew does, great price also, what’s not to love? Thank you Chewy!

    The dogs like it

By KARIN on Sep 16, 2019

About the same price than Lasix but very palatable so they don’t spit it out. So much easier to give. Definitely worth it. Sorry if your puppy needs it, though.
