Can this keep squirrels out

Vittles Vaults are pest proof, meaning insects such as ants (a very common problem). Rats can chew through metal if they have reason to think there is food to be had. The manufacturer does not guarantee their product against mice, rats, raccoons, possums, squirrels, bears, etc. However, they do make it difficult for these pest to chew through the rounded angle corners. It's tough for them to get their mouths around these corners. We suggest that if you have a problem, place a piece of wood (13"X 13") over the top, or store the Vittles Vault upside down. Customers have also had success covering their container with a milk crate or putting a couple of drops of peppermint essential oil on the container to act as a natural repellent.​

Is this waterproof enough to leave out in the rain?

Not as advertised

Not sure when I purchased, but shortly thereafter, once filled with birdseed, the squirrels made short work of this container. Had to switch to a tight seal metal

Not Squirrel proof

Within a few days I found that a squirrel chewed through the cover and got into the bird seed. I threw the cover out and put a heavy paver on top to block access

Within a few days I found that a squirrel chewed through the cover and got into the bird seed. I threw the cover out and put a heavy paver on top to block access. Unfortunately a squirrel started chewing into the side of the container and a small hole developed which I covered with duct tape. I now have the whole container inside a bigger outside storage container that is more secure.

Once the squirrels figured out they're was food in there, they began a campaign to scratch and chew the container until they got in. I gave two stars because it's a nice container, it's solid, good for bird seed storage but leave it INSIDE where the critters can't get to it.
