Look into other alternatives. This is absolutely never suitable for a Syrian hamster, or dwarfs. Hamsters need multiple inches of bedding to burrow into, a lot of unbroken floor space and much more. Hamsters in the wild run miles in a day, and can dig up to 24 inches deep into the ground! This is hamster purgatory.

What's up with the people complaining about this OVO Home being too small? It's actually very spacious but how about read the dimensions and buy a bigger habitat if this one isn't sufficient? I find it to be very spacious, and I bought an accessory kit to add more rooms. The rounded surfaces will be easy to clean and the thing looks super cute which is important if you plan to keep it out in an inhabitated room.

Despite their small size, Hamsters require so much more space. At least 30 inches for a Chinese or dwarf hamster or 36 inches for a Syrian hamster. These tiny cages are the equivalent of a human living in a half bathroom. They CANNOT move, they will bite the cage bars out of stress, and too small of a wheel will bend their backs. Please consider much larger alternatives.

Hamsters need big cages. If you don't have the space or money DONT buy a hamster. Hamsters are living creatures don't be selfish.. This cage is equivalent to a human living in a space as big as a regular sized house bathroom, this is their whole life. This ISNT OK!!

This cage debuted in the 1990’s. It is now offered in different colors with the habitrail house. At that time it was an interesting and fun new cage design. We now know more about the respiratory and space needs of the animals we keep as pets. This was a cage that we carried at our store for sale in the 90’s but we warned parents that cleaning it was not that much fun. It was also kinda a waste of space where ever you kept it because it’s a circle but takes up the same foot print as a square cage. When you add in the fact that there is inadequate air flow which allows the ammonia to build up which damages your pet’s respiratory system. It’s also not a lot of space especially if you want to add in cardboard boxes and other fun things for them to chew and build nests out of. So is it the worst cage out there? No. Are there several cages that are cheaper, offer more space and more ventilation? Yes. These are just facts. Read them and decide what’s important to you and make your decision. I can tell you that this is not a cage that we would carry today at our store due to what we now know. Certain things like exact amount of space needed and the ease of cleaning are more subjective. The lack of air flow is objective and I can testify the odor of ammonia when you open it is very overwhelming. I know I wouldn’t be comfortable leaving my pet in a cage like this. Others may be fine with their pets in a cage like this.

Habitrail OVO Hamster Home

Easy to assemble, easy to clean (once the bathroom is determined), changeable (easy to move pieces around, add/remove pieces) durable locks (escape proof), spacious

Easy to assemble, easy to clean (once the bathroom is determined), changeable (easy to move pieces around, add/remove pieces) durable locks (escape proof), spacious (actually bigger than I thought). I love that it has other pieces you can add. I added the habitat extension. The ONLY bad thing about this setup is the wheel. Although it has a gap to allow messes to drop into a catch area for easy cleanup, this gap can also catch little feet and is extremely dangerous. I removed the wheel.

Beautiful Habitrail cage

Habitrail makes literally the BEST habitats EVER!!! All the ppl constantly complaining about sq feet etc making others aweful about getting regular cages instead

Habitrail makes literally the BEST habitats EVER!!! All the ppl constantly complaining about sq feet etc making others aweful about getting regular cages instead of building HUGE loft McMansions LOL just STOP- ur hamster, mouse, rat etc will be PERFECTLY fine in whatever cage you get that suits YOUR needs and SPACE availability. Not everyone has space for a 50 inch + cage. Nor does everyone have the 2 hours it would take to clean it. And most importantly it is NOT necessary for your pet or their health. What necessary is you spending TIME with them and keeping their cage clean. The END. So get the cage YOU want. I had a mouse that was living in a BIG cage that was a pain to clean every time but I felt “compelled” to give him the “proper” living space quarters according to the so called online self “experts” and after a year I switched him to this cage- guess what little guy was never happier in his life. He did not like. Nor needed ALL that extra space. He LOVED this cage. And we loved it becuz it’s beautiful and very easy to keep clean. He was perfectly happy and content and healthy living up to his old age. So moral of the story GET THE CAGE YOU WANT for your pet they’ll be perfectly happy
