This coat appears to be just a scaled down horse coat, as the belly band is very thick and EXACTLY where a male goat's 'junk' is, so that if they pee, the urine will puddle on the inside of the belly band. My goats, at least, abhor moisture of any kind and would be horrified at this. Also, I'm not going to put a goat on a coat unless the temperature is going to fall below freezing and I don't want frozen urine on their belly-band. Another reviewer mentioned that they twisted the belly band, which worked for me, but which also made the 3XL coat very tight on my elderly, very thin wether, so I was unable to even fasten the belt fully. This, in turn makes him a little unhappy about wearing the coat. The simple solution of moving the belly band forward about six inches would have made the coat much nicer. The thickness of the padding of the coat leaves something to be desired. I have purchased mini-horse coats for some of our goats, and those seem twice as thick. I do like the easy-clip leg bands and the underside velcro band attachment. The neck is cleverly adjustable. I just cannot fathom that people who could design those nice features, did not look at a picture of a male goat and note where the penis is located (if you're reading this, designer-people: Male goats have their 'junk' (my review got flagged for biologically accurate terms) about 2/5 of their belly length up from the front of their hind legs). Curiously, the coat has an enormous neck hole - in the picture the neck hole is at its shortest length, but the coat runs short along the spine, leaving the last handspan or two uncovered - again, reminiscent of an equine design, and not accounting for the length that goat breeders like to see in their goats. The coat is probably OK for does but I have found better options.
I decided to order these for my 2 Nigerian Dwarf goats because our temperatures in Florida have been dipping into the high 20's with a low of 22 expected in a few days. I am glad I did! They fit well, even if I don't use the leg straps and I think the goats enjoy wearing them as they now stand still for me to put them on. My only suggestion would be for Horseware to make the belly strap narrower or move it further up towards the front legs. As it is now, the strap is too close to their penis and they can pee on it. I solved it by twisted the strap a few times so they won't hit it when they pee.
This blanket is perfect for my 2 year old saanen wether who had some health issues that stunted his winter coat growth. I had tried a few large dog coats but every morning he would come out with it hanging off. The Horseware Ireland goat rug is perfect for him due to the strong velcro and elastic straps for his back legs. It stays in place and keeps him warm.
We had a Oberhasli drop all her fir right before a cold snap, this made it perfect for her.
My pygme goat Penelope hates the cold! She wags her tail when i put her blanket on.
I ordered this waterproof, cold-weather coat for our 10-year old Nubian doe. It fits perfectly, and she loves it because it keeps her comfortable & warm. Beautifully made coat.
Excellent quality. Very well made. Algiers and Shadow look so cute in them
