The listed capacities are per bowl in a set. The 8 cup option would include two 8 cups bowls.

Are the bowls only held by the black ring or do they have some gripping tool so that the dog does not knock them over or take them out?

The bowls are held firmly with the black ring. There is no rubber gasket.

What is the maximum height the bowl can be set?

This is a sub-par product that Chewy should not even have on their site. It is poorly made. The bowl holders are supposed to just slide on but they do not. The U

This is a sub-par product that Chewy should not even have on their site. It is poorly made. The bowl holders are supposed to just slide on but they do not. The U bar that holds the bowls is supposed to me mounted on a stand -- the holes in the stand and the holes in the U bar do NOT line up so you can't even put the entire poorly made thing together. Don't bother with this item.

Easy to put together and adjust. I bought this to take on vacation and it packed nicely and allowed my golden retriever to eat from his dish at the perfect height

The sturdiness and adjustability

My lab mix is elderly and she can no longer use a dish on the floor. This stand allows me to place the dish at her standing height and the second at a lower height

My lab mix is elderly and she can no longer use a dish on the floor. This stand allows me to place the dish at her standing height and the second at a lower height when she begins to have trouble standing. Before I was having to hold the dish for her the entire meal. It is great for a large elderly dog with mobility issues.
