Not for large dogs

I ordered this for my dogs to be able to go outside when they wanted. It appears to be good quality. However, the size is wrong. The large says it's for dogs

I ordered this for my dogs to be able to go outside when they wanted. It appears to be good quality. However, the size is wrong. The large says it's for dogs up to 90 pounds, but my 60 pound Golden mix can't fit through the opening nor can my 75 pound Weimaraner; it is only 11.5 inches wide and they are 12. I wish this came in a bigger size because it appears to be a good product. But do not buy if you have larger dogs; it definitely wouldn't fit a 90 pound dog.

Solid construction and design

Though this is made for a window, and I will likely be buying a smaller one for a cat, especially after this experience, I bought to replace a small pet gate that fits under a cabinet and leads to a dog door. An unusual situation for sure. And the old pet gate has been fine until I rescued Indigo, a very long legged French bulldog. I’ve had rescue Frenchies before, and none of them as tall as she is. Since Frenchies have a predisposition for spinal issues, I was cringing as I watched her go out the tiny door in the old pet gate. I searched pet gates for hours on every platform known to man. I searched baby gates and found nothing that would work. And then I foundthis. I figured it was worth a go! I opened the box slid it into place loosened the knobs and bam it fit perfectly. The only issue is that it doesn’t have the support of a window. I grabbed a few inside corner brackets, screwed them into the wall into the floor, and it is solid as a rock.

Dogs can take some time to become comfortable with using a dog door, and doubly so the father off the floor the door is placed (and window insert doors will usually be at least a foot off the floor, as mine is). This makes it harder to train the dog to use the door. A good deal of that difficulty could be circumvented if the design took dog psychology into account. I has been easy to train him to use the door when I keep the flap raised. But getting him to push through the flap has proven impossible so far. A door that takes training psychology into account would enable me to set the flap open wide, or to lower it inch by inch to help him become increasingly comfortable. Alas, that is not the case here.

Just moved into a new rental home with an all glass back door so a pet door wasn't an option. However, have a window right next to it that goes to the floor and this fit perfectly. I was really surprised how sturdy the insert was and how well it sealed up. I added some additional weather stripping for additional insulation, but it really didn't need much. A great solution for those with glass doors or for those that don't want to cut a hole in their door.
