Five stars! The at-home kit was easy to use with clear instructions and a prepaid mailer for return shipping. The results arrived quickly and were very detailed, covering aspects like digestion, inflammation, and gut health. This test helped us identify food sensitivities, allowing us to adjust Jimmy's diet. He’s much happier and less itchy. Overall, it’s a thorough, stress-free experience and worth the investment. I highly recommend it!

The Innovative Pet Lab Comprehensive Review is a game-changer for dog health monitoring. This gastrointestinal testing service uses feces to identify potential health concerns in dogs. The process is seamless: you receive a testing box that includes a sample kit, a return bag, and a pre-paid UPS label, along with clear, easy-to-follow instructions. Once you collect and send the sample back, the company analyzes it and provides digital results online. This convenient and user-friendly service allows pet owners to proactively manage their dogs' health, ensuring timely interventions and peace of mind. That all being said, while I found the box to be packed up quite nicely, I did discover the box to be a little difficult to open without cutting the outer sleeve off. Otherwise, it’s a great buy.

I was so thankful to be able to try this product. With pets it is so hard to know if they have any digestive problems, because obviously, they can't tell you. When I received this test, I thought it was going to be a cheek swab, unfortunately it is a stool sample. This alone made me take a while to actually use the test, no one wants to dig around in poop. But, I'm glad I did [eventually] do it! After the sample was submitted and I made a profile on the Innovative Pet Lab website, it took 11 days to get my results, and I found out my dog Rosie needs to not eat gluten! Rosie also suffers from some sort skin condition that vets and I have not been able to figure out, so I am hoping the switch to grain free food will help with that! I would recommend this test, the 4 stars is literally only because of having to scoop poop into a little vial. Very helpful test.

I was excited to try out this test, specifically on my dog with a lot of tummy troubles. Because it offered so many results related to digestion issues. My boy is very anxious, and often has bouts of diarrhea or vomiting for no apparent reason. He has gone to the vet numerous times for digestion issues, but everything always comes back negative. So, I was very excited for this as it was specifically for pets with chronic GI issues. The test kit was great - it had everything I needed to easily collect and ship the specimen back to the lab. All of the instructions were very clear, and registering the kit online was easy. The specimen must be fresh and they recommend using a solid stool, so I actually had to wait about a week after getting the test to collect a sample due to an unfortunate (and unexpected) bout of diarrhea. After the lab received it, it took about 14 days to get the results back. I never received an email that the results were back (perhaps it went to spam?) which was a little frustrating just because it took a while to get the results. The results are detailed with easy to read ranges. Everything is color coded to indicate normal versus abnormal. Each result has detailed information on what abnormal values indicate, and how to proceed. I was shocked to see that my anxious boy’s results were completely normal - nothing was even borderline off. This was a little discouraging because I truly was hoping to get some information on my pup’s tummy troubles, but of course that has nothing to do with the actual rating of the product. Overall, the results were interesting to read, but discouraging that I didn’t learn anything new to indicate why my boy has digestive issues.

This kit was so easy to use and we received results really fast. In the past my dog has had intermittent tummy troubles resulting in loose stools, he also came to us with parasites initially. I've always worried about his GI biome, and wondered if it was just typical sensitive tummy issues, or something bigger. Luckily everything with is testing was normal! We had the benefit of having our annual veterinary fecal at the same time, it was also normal. So glad to see consistency between the results from the Dog Gut Check and from my veterinarian. I know they test different things, but I was a little worries that this was just a ploy to sell me supplements. It's not! Such a great tool to include in evaluating the full heath of my pup!

I'm glad this item is a one time around type of thing. The kit was good in that it clearly tells you each direction. Set up online was easy and fast. Collecting a sample was not the most glamorous thing but went ok. The hardest part was that the sample can only be at room temperature for 24 hrs and after that must go in the freezer. I wanted to do this on the weekend but because of the mailing part/weather not cooperating and not wanting to freeze the sample I had to do it after work a couple weeks after receiving the kit. Anyway, it will be interesting to get the results as my dog is 13 and has a sensitive stomach.
Interesting Concept Needs Improvement Though

I was excited to use this product to see if I can get answers about my dog's vomiting. The kit instructions seemed clear, but I realized after sending the sample in that I may have made mistakes so now I wonder if I will even be able to get results. Though the supplies are useful, I found the tiny spork inside the sample tube too small for use (the stick provided worked fine). The sample tube has a very small space for writing pet name, date, and time of sample collection. It would have been better to make this a separate label with more space that either gets affixed on the tube after writing on it or on a separate sheet for submission. I sealed the envelope with the sample in it (in the biobag), but the way I sealed it left some open space at the top of the envelope that I can only hope won't cause a problem in transit. I didn't have time to tape it but I did use the address label to help add to the envelope seal just in case. After I mailed it, I realized I had forgotten to use the box - so the sample went in the envelope just in the biobag and not in the box. Again I hope that won't cause a problem. I also realized the instructions say the sample can be room temp for 24 hours and otherwise should be frozen. I collected the sample and mailed it right away so did not need to freeze it. But how does this work with the mail transit time? And what of the fact that I happened to mail it before a holiday? It's not clear how Ground Advantage shipping will ensure the temperature guideline is followed while in transit, nor why customers aren't advised to only ship on certain non-holiday weekdays if they want to minimize time in transit (avoiding weekends and holidays). I wish I had thought of these things before mailing because now I am worried my sample won't be analyzed and it will be all for naught. If this was sent to me as a pilot program test, I hope these factors are considered for actual launch. I haven't received the results so I can't speak to that process, but I did register the kit as instructed before sending it in. The website worked fine, but after Step 3 of the instructions the next instruction should be to click on "My Tests" to find the register kit option there.

I can’t say just yet what I fully expect from the kit as the specimen was just mailed. However the kit is all inclusive as far as what you would need to collect and mail the sample. The registration was somewhat tedious as you had to back out of each of the steps to get to the next step. For example when you finish the pet’s registration, you have to go back to the menu and then complete the kit registration. There should be a “Next” to click on to take you to the next step. I’m also somewhat skeptical as to the accuracy of the final report. Usually when I would take a sample to my vet, it would have to be refrigerated or at least taken to the office within an allotted period of time. Although I did actually mail my pet’s sample within a few hours of collecting it, the sample has to get mailed, in my case, nearly 900 miles away in 90°+ heat! Would that not affect the outcome? I am however happy to have the opportunity to find out my pet’s health and am hoping for an outcome without any problems!

My experience with using this test was so easy. The company explains in easy steps the process and it’s very simple to register. When you register your kit I’d provided, I was having a hard time getting it to accept. I realized even though the kit Id was in capital letters, I had to use lower case letters. The test results was so detailed, it was some great info to have on my dog. I would highly recommend.
Not a substitution for veterinary care.

This is a great tool if your dog or cat has GI issues, but NOT a substitution for veterinary care. I’m not sure if this is comparable to a veterinary GI panel. IF it is it’s definitely cheaper than doing a GI panel through your vet. If your pet isn’t sick and in need of veterinary care, this could help guide you with dietary tweaks or probiotic use. I can’t stress enough that this isn’t a substitution for vet care if your pet has a history of GI issues and is exhibiting symptoms, though. I’d like to discuss the results with my vet.
