Inconvenient heating design

The bed itself is nice round shape that my cat loves, and I think it is well constructed, soft and comfortable. It is fully functional. However the everything about

The bed itself is nice round shape that my cat loves, and I think it is well constructed, soft and comfortable. It is fully functional. However the everything about the heating mat is inconvenient: The placement of the heater on top of the cushion puts the heating elements directly under the cats body (the instructions suggest adding fabric insulator); The heater defaults to 120 degrees (too hot for my senior cat); The heater requires the owner to return 8 minutes after turning it on in order to set/lower the temperature and set the timer to anything less than the default of 12 hours. I have other heaters with automatic on/off, temperature and runtime features, I wish this one was the same - Otherwise it's a nice bed.

My cat LOVES this bed. He's an outdoor type of guy. However, when the weather turns cold, he curls up and is quite cozy, nestled on his bed. I like that it's made especially for pets so that the temperature is just right, most comfortable for a cat. He's fully relaxed.

The part they lay on is hard
