What size do you recommend for a 40lb Soft Coated Wheaten? He is an very strong chewer so I don’t want him to be able to get a grip on it.

Answer by ChewyJan 26, 2019
The 8-inch toy is recommended for medium breeds while the 12-inch toy is recommended for large and giant breeds. Every dog plays differently and, since not all toys are created equal, it’s always best to keep a close watch on your pup in case things get ruff. Supervised play will help toys last longer and most importantly keep your pal safe. No dog toy is truly indestructible, so always remove the toy from playtime if pieces begin to break off.

Our heeler LOVES Harding balls. We got his first egg about a yeah and a half ago and it lasted us that long. He would get the chance to play with it about once per week on average in a dog park (when empty). Idk if it was a quality issue with this one in particular, but it was dented in the very first session and he had his teeth sunk into it by his second. We had to throw it out after that and now are back to his jolly ball. Pretty bummed out.

Lots of fun, but very hard!

The dogs really enjoyed playing with this toy, chasing it all over the yard! However, it is very hard and hurt their mouths and teeth. I would only recommend this

Jolly ball

To small for my Rottweiler she can get her teeth into it and get them stuck. Went in the garbage.

My 2 year old White Shepherd has so much energy, even a walk doesn't always tire her out. She has a regular Jolly Ball with holes, but she can pick it up, carry it around & chew the edges. She didn't really play with it. I tossed the egg onto the lawn and hello, she went non-stop for probably 5-10 minutes and was panting. Kynsi never pants. I had to take it away and she went into the house and took a nap! Woo Hoo. My only caution--if you have a barker, this toy made Kynsi bark and she's not a barker. It seems the longer she plays with it the more she starts to bark... I'm guessing out of frustration because she can't get her mouth around it or her teeth into it. She is a chewer and not many things last. I've seen pictures of other eggs that dogs have managed to chewed through, but it may take awhile. Even if she eventually breaks into it, as long as there isn't any danger, it will probably be usable and for $20, down time for her, is down time for me, so worth it in my opinion and I'll buy another. Oh, another caution. We have pavers and she flipped it up over a short wall onto the pavers and was having a great time and then she slipped and slammed into the house and yiped. Her hip was tender that night. She's good now, but I bring it back to the grass if she flips it over the wall. It's also extremely entertaining to watch her maneuver it around!

Pup finally figured out how to use the Jolly Egg and her herding instincts came out full force. Fun egg shape causes unpredictability. She was having a blast. I don’t really like the plastic, but I’m not sure what I’d prefer. Probably some material that would make the toy cost 3x as much. So plastic will do. Recommend for herding dogs. They need to get that urge out.

Almost indestructible

This was a birthday gift for a Malinois. I have given this gift before to large breed dogs and they seem to love it.

My dog has played with it twice and has already chewed through it. He absolutely LOVES it, but it's not the best toy for intense chewers! It's meant for them to not be able to catch it, but he surely made it his mission to catch it. If your dog is a chewer, maybe rethink this item - even though it was definitely a hit! I would just pick something else instead.
