Try locating the nail bed or "quick" inside your pet's nail. It contains blood vessels and nerves. The quick is easily visible in light colored nails, but often difficult to see in dark nails. Use this clipper with the cutting blade toward you and cut the nail well short of the quick. If you accidentally do cut the quick, apply styptic powder to help stop the bleeding. After trimming the nails, smooth the edges with the Grip Soft Nail File.

Cheap!!!!!

These clippers are cheap. I opened the package and a screw was laying there in the package. I tried to put it back in the handle, but it had broken off inside. I used them on the small dog first - it worked ok. Went to the next dog, started to bend. Tried the Mastiff, not a chance they were working.

Have big dogs, this is a must!!

I have two boxer dogs, and every nail trimmers kept on breaking on me. Everytime I would go use them, they wouldn't be able to cut their nails at all. Then I came across this, and decided to give these a try. Just received them in the mail today, when ordered them on a Friday. I was able to clip my dogs nails front and back without it breaking on me!! Really love it. Thinking about getting more of this in a few weeks!!!

Not for big dogs

Broke on the second nail ! These might be ok for a small dog or rabbit but definitely not a GSD or big dog with hard nails. The plastic snapped at the pin that holds the thing together. Leaving me with a hard to trim mess. I do not recommend them and will be looking to see if my review gets posted.

Why can't I find a nail trimmer that easily cuts my dogs nails?

I never had this problem this problem before this past year. I can't find a nail trimmer that easily cuts my Golden Retrievers nails. This one cuts, but is so dull, it pinches the nail. I have a hard time getting through the nails. Foster and Smith used to have a green handled nail trimmer, that easily cut the nails.

I bought this item and am disappointed. Cheaply constructed and not very sharp. I will not mangle my dog's nails with this product. Junk!

Simple to use but not my favorite

I purchased these based on another set I had borrowed, thinking that the guillotine would be the same. I would say this is more difficult to use and didn't give a "clean" cut as much as I would like. We have a large lab mix (80lbs) and like to keep his nails short so I sometimes use a dremmel to smooth them as well. I'll be looking for a replacement for these that yields better results personally. For a smaller dog they might work easier!
