Will this stop mess of seeds

The clear plastic hood acts as a guard to keep food debris inside the cage, keeping it clean and free from messes.

my bird seems to be frightened to stick his head in the opening, when he finds the opening.

The clear plastic guard can be removed if your bird is uncomfortable using it.

Do budgies (or any bird in this case) have to dig to get their food?

Your bird does not have to dig to get the food out. All he has to do is place his head inside to eat or drink.

What color are the cups? Some of the photos show a medium green cup but a large blue cup. Are the sizes different colors?

The color of this product is not associated with size. This product will be shipped in various colors at random depending on the availability in our warehouse facilities.

These are excellent feeders-

My budgies can eat all they want, but can't climb inside and kick out all the food, or try to build nests. Also, if they get broken, it's easy to get new ones!

Covered food dish for bird

I had one just like it and it got broken recently and I very much wanted a replacement. I like that the food is covered so that Piper can’t poop in it.

Loved design

Unfortunately the canaries did not like it at all. Maybe they felt too exposed by putting their head in such an enclosed area? Not sure.

Cheap plastic

The moment I opened the package and turned it to fill with water the plastic broke. It was very thin and cheaply made. I have brought one of them in the past and

Like that is is hooded and attaches to cage

I was using a different type of stand along hooded food/water containers, but they figured out how to turn them over. So I got these to attach them and keep from

I was using a different type of stand along hooded food/water containers, but they figured out how to turn them over. So I got these to attach them and keep from being empties. So far they have not figured out how to flip these over. The hood has small opening for the head, and not really big enough to go inside it, helps to keep them from getting poop inside.
