Can the shade-cover be used without the cot? Can pegs go into the ground? (This would be a gift for a stranger/neighbor who has two dogs lying out in sun, no shade in their enclosed yard. I'd give her a shade but don't want to buy a cot for her.)

Can this be used without the platform

Clearly air will circulate because the sides are open, but the more important part of that question is "is the material breathable"? I definitely don't want to shade him with a material that does not breathe, that would traps hot air under the canopy. What is the material that the canopy is made of?

This canopy is made of polyester material and helps in providing shade from the sun and keeps your pet cool through open spaces on each side.

Are these with the covers that block the sun also water proof?

While the Pet Cot Canopy is water-resistant, it is designed mainly to provide shade. It would offer some protection from the rain, but water could still enter from the sides.

Easy and well made - Not enough shade

I really wanted to love this! I have a couple of K&H raised beds and love them. Super durable, and have had the same beds for years. Quality products. The canopy

I really wanted to love this! I have a couple of K&H raised beds and love them. Super durable, and have had the same beds for years. Quality products. The canopy was easy to assemble, and made with quality fabric. However, it did not provide the shade I thought it would. No matter the angle, it did not shade the entire bed. We have the large beds. We bought the large canopy well after purchasing the beds. The fit was exactly as advertised. True A for effort!

Needs to be a bit bigger and higher.

The dog bed and canopy are good for our pup, but the X Large bed needs to be even bigger. We have a German shepherd and he's a bit cramped. and it takes a bit
