Cleaning or Storing:
The surface can be cleansed using a damp towel or sponge and mild dish washing detergent. DO NOT wash in a washing machine.
Grapefruit seed extract is an all natural, non-toxic antibacterial. Add it to the water when filling and place a few drops inside the bed before storing to help prevent bacterial growth.
How to Use the Cool Bed III:
The best results will be obtained when used in a shady area. When using outdoors, always place the Cool Bed III™ in a shady, cool spot, as this will maximize its heat wicking abilities. Be sure not to place the bed on sharp objects that could puncture the Cool Bed III™. Keeping the Cool Bed III™ indoors overnight near air conditioning will super cool the bed for outdoor use the next morning. When using indoors, be sure to place the Cool Bed III™ out of direct sunlight. The cooler the spot you place the Cool Bed III™, the better. An ideal place would be a cool tile, linoleum or concrete floor. An area with good air movement will also help keep the bed cooler. You will soon figure out the best location for your new Cool Bed III™, and your pet will love you for it!
Moving:
Do not lift or move the bed by its corners as this will cause the foam core interior to separate from the sides. Fold the bed and wrap each arm around either end of the bed to move.
Emptying:
- Open the filler cap.
- Roll bed from opposite end, expelling water out of the cap (much like rolling a sleeping bag).
- Store with filler cap open.
Filling & Usage:
-
Remove the Cool Bed III™ from the box. Locate the filler cap on the bed and open it by grasping the base of the cap with one hand and the tab of the cap with the other. Pull the cap open. Flatten the Cool Bed III™ and let it sit for a few a minutes to allow the cool core interior to retain its shape as all air has been removed for shipping.
-
Place the Cool Bed III™ in the intended location with the cap side of the bed up for filling. Place a towel under the filler cap end of the bed to absorb any accidentally spilled water. Using a calibrated container with a pour spout, begin carefully filling the Cool Bed III™ with cool water. The bed will take the following water quantities: Small: 1 - 1 1/2 gallons, Medium: 2 - 3 gallons, Large: 4 - 6 gallons. Keep in mind, the more water used, the more cushioning and cooling capabilities the bed will have. You can experiment for the optimal feel of the Cool Bed III. Ultimately the recommended quantity of water for best cooling capabilities is as listed above.
-
Now that you have your Cool Bed III™ filled, close the filler cap and begin to knead the bed to help work the water into the Cool Core™. Now pull open the air adjustment valve and gently work as much air out as you can, using sweeping motions across the Cool Bed III™ with your hands. Sweep the air towards the valve allowing the air to expel from the bed. Seal the valve when most of the air has been removed. You will feel how comfortable the bed will be at this point. The bed should feel very soft and spongy and you should feel water squishing around inside the bed. Now decide if a little more water is desirable or if it's just right for your pet. Add water if necessary, repeating the air removal process. Note: A little air inside the bed will not affect the cooling capabilities of the Cool Bed III™. If you choose, you may expel air as needed, though it's not necessary.

How much water should I put in the Cool Bed III?
We recommend the following quantities of water:Small: 1–1.5 gallonsMedium: 2–3 gallonsLarge: 4–6 gallons
How do I keep the water inside the Cool Bed III cold?
We recommend keeping the Cool Bed out of direct sunlight and placing it in the shade, whether outdoors or indoors. If you do this, the bed's unique cool core will keep the water cool.
Does the Cool Bed III have a weight limit?
No, there is not a weight limit for the Cool Bed III.
How is the Cool Bed III constructed and how does it compare to similar products from other brands?
Our Cool Bed III™ has a heavy vinyl backing, is soft and pliable, and also has a nylon coating. Our competitors' vinyl is often very stiff.
Where does the water go?
There is a cap on the underside of the Cool Pad. Remove this cap and fill the bed with water.
How often do I need to refill the Cool Bed?
You do not need to refill the Cool Bed.
Is this product puncture-proof?
While the Cool Bed III has heavy duty vinyl backing and most people use it without experiencing a puncture, it is not puncture-proof.It is possible than an animal's nails could puncture the bed. If this is a concern for you, the Coolin’ Gel Pad would be an excellent alternative.
Would this work for cats too?
Since dogs and cats have the same body temperature, any of our dog products will work for cats as well. Other customers have used it for that cats without any issues, but please be aware that a cat’s claws could possibly puncture the bed. Can it be used with a heater?
This item cannot be used with a heater. It is specifically engineered to be used as a cooling dog bed.
Is the cooling dog bed safe for human usage as a pillow?
This product is made for pets and tested for pets, but has never been tested for use with humans. It is constructed of vinyl/nylon on the exterior surface, so if you have any allergies to these materials, we do not advise using it. The inside consists of foam and the water you provide and the product is non-toxic. The water inside will wick the heat from anything that is in contact with the product, whether it be human or animal.
How can I deter my dog from chewing the fill cap?
You can use a homemade chew deterrent, or buy one and apply it to the cap.
I had to move our Cool Bed III. In doing so, the inner material got bunched up. How can I get the bed to lay flat again?
To avoid this issue, please follow the Cool Bed III instructions carefully. The problem occurs when the Cool Bed III is picked up by the corner or edge. The weight of the water in the foam core will actually tear the foam core away from the side it has been secured to. This causes the foam to bunch up in the bottom and then it won’t lie flat again. That being said, there is a remedy that works most of the time. Overfill the Cool Bed with water–at least as deep as the foam bunch is tall. Then fill it with air to make it balloon up. Knead the bed until the foam works its way out flat. Drain the excess water and air and be extremely careful when moving it since the core has already been ripped.
2-Year Limited Warranty.

Love this cooling mat as much as my dog does!
By DogMom on Oct 9, 2020
I purchased a cooling mat a while ago but never got around to getting the grapefruit seed extract. Eventually it got mungy. I was happy to replace it and THIS time I was able to add grapefruit seed extract. Our dog loves this mat and we love that it keep his overall body temperature down. With the fires here in CA, we were not able to open our windows & w/o AC it’s has been 80-85 degrees inside the house (even with 7 fans going 24/7). Too hot for us and especially too hot for the dog. So between cool showers, wrapping his paws with cool cloths, draping his head with a cool cloth, & the cooling mat, he is significantly more comfortable & a much cooler/happier dog! Not worth the money
By BinBus on Nov 3, 2020
I love my pets so I try to buy them all things that I think that they need. This product was to help keep my babies comfortable in the summer. Horrible, so inconvenient and to fragile, especially for the money it cost me waaay to many dollars for this piece of mess. Just not worth more than $10 at the most.

Dog loves it but...
By Cyndy on Sep 20, 2020
My dog Butter loves this bed and is the only bed he actually lays in other than the hard floor and won’t lay on any other bed I buy. If it were up to me I probably wouldn’t recommend it because it tends to leak. Bought it end of June. By august there was a small leak at the seam but it didn’t soak through so it was still usable. By September it started leaking underneath and the floor got wet. It’s expensive and doesn’t last very long. Butter loves it so much..

Great Product for the money!
By msalter on Sep 6, 2020
We bought this for our large senior dog who gets so hot in Florida. We have it placed in our living room, out of sunlight as the instructions say to do, and our dog loves it! It does not immediately feel cool to touch. But, if you lay your legs on it, after a couple of minutes if feels very cool, you can tell the difference in the temperature. We have the blue pad, and I had no problem filling it with 5 gallons of water, using a pitcher to prevent spilling, and flipping it over. I have slid it to the left or right as needed and I have had no issues. We got it on 7/14/20 and used it immediately. It’s almost two months and we have had no issues and our boy loves it so much.

Dog Loves This BUT...
By Laura on Sep 2, 2020
Our dog loves this cool bed (large) but I have several problems with it. First of all, it is not easy to fill or get the extra air out, but the real problem is that it has to be valve side up to do all of that. THEN you have to somehow turn the bed OVER so the top is on the top and the valve is underneath --otherwise the valve will become an attractive chew toy for your dog. Once you finally turn it over, the inner lining has shifted. UGH! My second complaint is the gray takes on an ugly, dirty look despite daily washing. It's disgusting. If you DO get this, get the blue. :)

Dog loves but they don't last
By kbell on Jul 25, 2020
I had to buy 2 of these in a 4 month period before giving up and buying a gel mat from a different brand. My dog LOVES her cooling mats, and this one was great at first since there is a tiny bit of cushion. HOWEVER, 3 months after I bought the first one, I moved it and my carpet was wet and stained blue. Dog didn't tear a hole in it or anything, it was leaking along the seams. I found the same mat at a really cheap price so I figured I'd try it again and hope for better results. Nope. 1 month later ..same thing. It leaks out of the edge once pressure is applied , even if I barely fill it. Now I have 2 blue stains in the carpet. Only paying $20 for the 2nd mat took a bit of the sting out of it I had to buy 2 of these in a 4 month period before giving up and buying a gel mat from a different brand. Don’t waste your money
By Roxy on Aug 31, 2020
I love the concept of this cool pad and I have ordered many over the years. The quality control must have changed with K&H because this one split a seem and leaked within 6 weeks of use. Very disappointing, as my dog is recovering from knee surgery and this really helped her.

She has been using it each night
By Strozzle on Jul 7, 2020
Got this size small for my 18lb Cavalier King Charles. At first she didn't know to use it, but after 2 days she tried it out and has been going to it each night. I read that it's supposed to feel cooler than the air temp which is significant to dogs. I don't really feel a difference in temp when I lay my hand on it though. But she seems to like it, whether cooling or just comfortable. Has withstood her digging at it and is a good size to fit in her crate if needed. Her photo angle makes it look small since she's laying weird but it's a good size. She has since learned to lay on it lengthwise!

Must Be A Joke
By Horseplay on Jul 29, 2020
We filled the bed with cold water as directed. It is very difficult to fill this water pillow without water leaking everywhere. It is also very hard to straighten the thin inner gel piece, My Terrier wanted nothing to do with it after all of our hard work. the bed never felt cool to the touch. One would be better off buying a child's pool for outside and just lowering the AC inside. I must say Chewey's CS is second to none.

Very Bad Smell
By Sony on Jul 3, 2020
I ordered this item on March 11 2020 My dog rather preferred our wood floor over this Cool Bed III ... I kept this Cool Bed into my living room closet..... until one day I opened the closet... I smelled a very strong unpleasant chemical as plastic smell ... to think about it.... dogs are very sensitive on smells ... and this is a very bad smell and probably no one really paid attention on it?
