It's recommended to unplug the bed if you leave your home on an extended vacations, as they do with any electrical appliance. Otherwise, it is designed for 24/7 operation and you can leave it plugged in all day.
Will this mat work under a Sulcata Tortoise or does it rely on the body heat of a dog, cat?

The heated pad is not designed for use with reptiles. The K&H outdoor beds and pads are designed to warm to a cat or dog's normal body temperature of 102°F.
Is this product safe if dog gets wet in rain then lays on it
