This mat is safe for use anywhere indoors for 24/7 operation. If leaving for an extended period of days however, it's suggested to plug it out.

Is it safe to keep this mat plugged in while I am not at home?

MET Safety Laboratories suggests unplugging the bed if you leave your home on an extended vacation, as they do with any electrical appliance. Otherwise, it is designed for 24/7 operation and you can leave it plugged in all day. This item has been certified by MET labs to adhere to strict electrical safety standards.

They love it, and it didn't take them long to figure out what the mat did. Two complaints and reasons I did not buy two more. - The cord is too short. It's only 5 feet, and the manufacturer cautions against using an extension cord. I will not buy another one because of that; any other location in the house will require an extension cord. - Others have mentioned the size of the heating unit. It's really noticeable, which makes you wonder why and call into question the overall quality of the mat. I would have purchased two more.

We live in a northern climate with a short haired cat. Our house is kept at a slightly cool temperature in the winter. Before getting this mat, our cat would often lay in front of a warm air duct soaking up the heat. After placing this mat in his favorite sleeping place we find him enjoying the warmth of the mat throughout the day. Some reviewers mention that the heating element is narrow compared to the rest of the mat. While that is true, I find that soon after our cat lays on the mat, the warmth quickly spreads to the entire area he is occupying.

10/10 would (and did) buy again

I bought one of these mats for my older cat who had taken to stalking me for my warmth and yelling at me when I dared do things other than be a heating pad for her

I bought one of these mats for my older cat who had taken to stalking me for my warmth and yelling at me when I dared do things other than be a heating pad for her. As soon as she figured out the mat was heated, she started spending all of her time on it, so much so that we bought another one to give her a second option. She now alternates between the two and our younger (bigger) cat also enjoys the mats on occasion. I feel so much more at peace knowing she's warm and comfortable--and she doesn't yell at me anymore (unless she wants food). Highly, highly recommend.

Luna cannot love it more

I got it for Luna more so than my other cat, Gizmo, because Luna doesnt sleep in bed with us and im always worried she gets cold at night. I put the kitty warming

I got it for Luna more so than my other cat, Gizmo, because Luna doesnt sleep in bed with us and im always worried she gets cold at night. I put the kitty warming pad on one of the platforms of the cat tree and Luna cannot be bothered to get up from it. It stays at a reasonably warm temp consistently and I can tell she absolutely loves it! Also easy to clean the cover and put back before she notices its gone.

As always I loved this K&H heating pad. I've used these for years with outside cats that have stayed with me. This one was actually for a neighbor's cat that spent her time on my carport. When they moved I gave the pad to them. Love all K &H pads that I've ever had. They are extremely durable and all my cats have used them.. Great products.

MY CATS' FAVORITE SPOTS

I am very glad I made this purchase. I have three cats. I bought two mats to see if they'd use it and it did take a while for all three to become accustomed to

I am very glad I made this purchase. I have three cats. I bought two mats to see if they'd use it and it did take a while for all three to become accustomed to it. I, also, tried the mats out In different spots initially. Per instructions, the mats are left turned on all the time. Two of the cats have arthritis and take daily Yumove and monthly Solensia injections which have made a difference. However, heat eases arthritic joints and is comforting in the colder house temperature in winter. I, too, wondered about the fact that the mat is not entirely covered by the heating element but I see that it is actually a good thing as the cats can adjust their positions if they feel it is too warm underneath them and still be comfortable on the mats. The two arthritic cats are often found stretched out on them and so I may need to buy a third one. It's good to know that I'm doing all I can to ensure their comfort.

my cat is too dumb to use this

I did not take into account how I would teach my cat to use this mat since the heat is only activated when they lay on it. It doesn't heat on its own, which I think

I did not take into account how I would teach my cat to use this mat since the heat is only activated when they lay on it. It doesn't heat on its own, which I think is a good safety feature, but then my cat doesn't understand that it will warm only if he lays on it. I tried a few different things like preheating it with a pillow and placing him on it, putting treats on it, and putting his food bowl on it. Ultimately, I just put the mat on the chair where he sleeps anyway and he finally started using it because he wanted to sleep on the chair. Just something to consider before you purchase if you have a not-smart orange cat like me.

Very thin outer cover and impossible to replace the inner foam lining once it has been removed to clean the outer cover. Inside heater element is much too thin. I ordered a similar product from this company a few yrs back--nice fleece outer cover and wider (oval) heater insert. Company should have stayed with the old, original, design. If this item did not cost to send back (shipping), I would return it. As is, it is worthless to me.
