I see it says it can be hung vertically or horizontally. Will it radiate heat if it is against the side wall of the nesting box as in the picture shown?

I use mine in a rabbit hutch wall and it does radiate heat into a small area. I have a large hutch and use over of these in the "loft" and two larger ones in each wing of the hutch. I put a tarp around when it's windy, rainy or snowy, but we managed to keep the hutch at 50 degrees in 6 degree weather. Even had a litter of 8 born and they all did great.

can this be used for a small dog?

Sawdust and wood shavings are very combustible and we would never advise using them in conjunction with any type of electrical or heated products. Please keep the pad separate from areas that contain combustible materials.

Nice and warm

I use this outdoors to supplement other heating pads I lay out for the stray cats. I know these are supposed to be for chickens but they work for cats, too.

A+ for how well this pad heats. Definitely seems to work as described! I tried to use it for something that was definitely not its intended purpose, so perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised it didn’t work out. Got it for my indoor cats as it was on a better sale than other heated pet pads. Didn’t work for us for two reasons: - The pad is firm, not bendy (that’s on me for not reading carefully enough!) - When it’s plugged in, it makes a distinct buzzing noise (like a bunch of cicadas) The buzzing was really the deal breaker for us. I kept hearing the buzzing anytime I was in the same room as one of the pads and my animals wouldn’t go near it. I had actually ordered 3 pads (sale!) and all 3 had the same buzzing. It doesn’t start until after the initial 20 minute warm up. But once it started it was nearly constant. Huge shoutout to Chewy customer service- they made the return incredibly easy! While this product wasn’t right for me, I really appreciate how Chewy handled my concern.

Not what I expected.

Was not what I expected, I thought it was a soft heated pad, did not know it was hard and not bendable at all. Wanted it for an outdoor shelter I made for a stray

Was not what I expected, I thought it was a soft heated pad, did not know it was hard and not bendable at all. Wanted it for an outdoor shelter I made for a stray cat. Now I will have to unassembled the shelter and try to pin this to the side wall. Too bad K&H raised the prices so high on heated pet pads. You would think they were made of gold or something!!!

I was lucky enough to read a review by someone else stating that this is exactly the same as the heating pad labeled for small animals by the same brand. It even says "small animal" on the back, but it's considerably less expensive. I have a 2-story insulated cat house on my porch for the 3 stray kittens that roam my neighborhood. I have 1 heat pad on each floor. They keep the house toasty warm! Highly recommended!
