Is this a heater or just a de-icer? I live in south carolina and don't have a problem with ice but I would like to keep the pond water warm at around 60 degrees, even when it is 30 degrees outside. My pond is very small, only about 450 gallons, I think.
Answer by ChewyOct 22, 2019
The K&H Thermo-Pond 3.0 is a unique, patented de-icer that maintains a hole in pond ice. This de-icer maintains a 12 inch hole in pond ice, even in sub-zero weather.

Can this be used if you have a pond liner or will it melt it
Answer by ChewyMar 20, 2021
The Thermo-Pond 3.0 can safely be uses with a plastic pond or a pond liner, as it never becomes hot thanks to its thermostatic control.

how long is the cord
Answer by ChewyFeb 12, 2021
The cord is 12 feet long.

Slow shipping

I was expecting 2-3 days shipping as it said when I ordered it. Instead it took over a week. I needed it to keep a frozen pond open for the fish survival.

Doesn't float long

Initially I thought this was a great product but my heater sank after a few months. It still heats, but doesn't give you that opening in the surface of ice that you need

Do not buy this product

This product is junk. It started to leak and sunk in only 2 weeks of use.

Great Product and fast delivery

I had one for 15-18 years and this winter it developed a leak so it took on water. Replaced it with a new one and hope for another 15-18 years. It does a great job leaving an air hole in my pond for the goldfish. I also use a bubbler hanging down through the middle to add oxygen to the water. Chewy had an awesome price relative to other sites (almost $15 less) and free delivery.

It heated but it sunk

This heater sprang a leak, filled with water and sunk in the fishpond. It apparently still heated and didn't cause an electrical malfunction but didn't serve the purpose of keeping the pond surface free of ice. Chewy refunded the price 4 months after the purchase. Can't beat that for customer service!

Got a bad one

I’ve used many of these heaters over the years. This one sunk to the bottom of my pond in a matter of weeks. Need to return it.

Super product for the price!

Did a great job! Went through the snow episode and kept a clear circle of water open which I think contributed to our fish making it through the severe weather. When the snow and ice melted our little fish was gathered around it obviously could feel some of the heat from the heater! I’m enclosing a picture.

Works pretty well

I have a 4500 gal pond with koi as old as 37 years (yes, really that old) and I use 3 of these at different areas in the pond. They work well and are cheap to operate. In SUPER cold and wind, you sometimes have to pour a bucket of hot water in the hole to get it unfroze, but that isn't an everyday occurrence. They will last you about 3 seasons, so cost effective as well when you figure in the electric savings. I've tried them all in 40 years, and this became my choice for my finned kids about 10 years ago. Won't use anything else now.
