APPROXIMATELY how many standard sized day old chicks can this safely accommodate

This brooder can hold approximately 15 chicks.

Does it have specific heat settings?

The brooder is made so the under surface achieves around 110 F. The temperature falls rapidly the further away the chick is from actually touching the surface. Keep the height in mind when adjusting it.

Can this be placed vertically in a coop while transitioning chicks?

This brooder can be placed vertically, however it will probably fall over, and the chicks would have to stand on the leg to get close the to heated shelf.

Is this okay for turkeys?

The K&H Pet Products poultry heated chicken brooder from Chewy saved our chicks! It got so cold and snow and we had this waiting for when we got our chicks. I’m sure they would not have made it, if it wasn’t for this K&H Pet Products poultry heated chicken brooder, from Chewy’s products! The chicks love it and it’s helped them thrive and continue to grow. If anyone was going to raise baby chicks this is one product I’ve recommend to ensure a safe and easy was to warm your baby chicks. It’s safe and so easy to assemble. I may order another one to have for back up! We love it and so do our baby chicks!

I like that it doesn't get hot to the touch the way other brooder plates do.

It comes apart easily. It's not as stable as I would like because of that. I haven't had any issues so far.

Helpful for new chicks, doesn’t take the place of heat lamp

We used this a couple of times already for new chicks up to about 2 to 3 weeks. They will get under it for a little extra warmth but it will not warm up the rest

We used this a couple of times already for new chicks up to about 2 to 3 weeks. They will get under it for a little extra warmth but it will not warm up the rest of the brooder box, in our case a plastic tote. It doesn’t get too hot so it won’t burn then. They really seem to like it. The only reason for the 4 stars is that I thought that we could use this instead of the lamp.

Doesn’t heat

I got this for ducklings. It didn’t keep them warm even inside house I had to also use red lamp. They also get stuck so be careful not to put it against their walls

That said they LOVED GETTING IN TOP and jumping off repeatedly like a diving board. lol. It’s ok for indoors in a WELL heated house, but they’ll succumb to the cold outside with just this. Maybe try a different brand.

Great little brooder for small clutch

I usually have my broodies raise all our chicks, but when one was kicked out of the nest due to hatch complications, I brought her inside and needed something quick

I usually have my broodies raise all our chicks, but when one was kicked out of the nest due to hatch complications, I brought her inside and needed something quick (and also happened to be home alone without our car for the weekend, so I couldn't get to a store). I ordered this right away and was amazed that it came within a day and a half even though I live out in the sticks. (In the meantime I limped along using a regular heating pad with a meat thermometer to monitor the temp as her heat source... not ideal lol but it worked!) I like the design of this as it's very similar to how she would snuggle up underneath a mama hen. It also keeps her warm without bright artificial light affecting her sleep. Being able to have it at a diagonal height setting was great when she was still really little, so she could snuggle in close or have more airspace as she pleased. I wish that was available on more than just the lowest setting. My little rescue is now 4 weeks old and thriving. I have used this continuously for most of those 4 weeks and had no quality issues. I hope it holds up for the long-term! It's a great little brooder.

The chicks dig it!

Works great, keeps a constant temp and the chicks think it's their mom. It's perfect. Small size is great for up to five or six I'd think.
