This deicer is not adjustable and can be used with aluminum and plastic Poultry Waterers, dog bowls, buckets and other water receptacles.
How hot does it get on the underside ? How concerned should I be setting it right on the floor of my coop where there is shavings and straw ?

This product is designed to keep water thawed, yet not hot. It includes TCO (Thermal Cut off) for safety and it's thermostatically controlled. The temperature of the heating element will depend on the temperature of the water. When submerged in water, the heating element doesn’t feel that warm to the touch, but it is designed to keep a stock tank from freezing over when choosing the correct deicer as per out zone chart. This item can be used with any waterer and it's perfect for chickens, ducks, horses, pets, goats, etc.
Can I put this in water inside of a plastic bucket?

Can this be used with an extension cord?

We recommend that the cord be UL or MET rated. The cord is 25 feet or shorter and is made for outdoor use.
MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with our products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product.
