My 22-month-old Pekingese had sudden onset rear (lumbar area) paralysis in 12/22 and made a complete recovery after surgery. Unfortunately, she re-paralyzed (thoracic area) herself (seriously, although I wouldn’t have believed it unless I witnessed it myself) by twisting to snap at a bug on 4/23. Again she recovered but not as well as after her first injury/surgery (I simply couldn’t afford a second surgery. I couldn’t really afford the first but she was so young I managed to pull the needed funds together). She was walking and playing but still had a significant amount of time with no proprioception. Yesterday she lost any proprioception she might have had and was dragging her rear legs. My vet and I decided to have her wear her back brace 24/7 along with prednisone and stomach protectioning medications. After wearing the brace for four hours and before any medication she was up and walking while placing her rear feet in a normal manner! I’m back here today ordering a second brace as a spare in case the first becomes soiled. Originally, we’d decided to only have her in a brace when she was outside of the house but now it’s seems she’ll be wearing it more often than not. !!!THANK-YOU LABRA FOR MAKING A LIFE-SAVING PRODUCT!!! I didn’t purchase this through chewy but wanted to leave a review as it’s such a great product.
I had such high hopes this would help my dog who is having an IVDD flare-up. I usually help him up to use the bathroom during a Flare by using a sheet to support his stomach and or hips from underneath. I put this on my dog and the fit was poor at the chest. It was too tight by upper chest and gapped at the lower chest. Trying to adjust the leg straps which seem to fit made my dog yelp and scream out in pain. I tried every adjustment I could to make this work but it just made my poor dog more miserable in pain than without it.
