Uses

Lidocaine is a potent local anesthetic producing epidural, nerve conduction and infiltration anesthesia.

Possible Side Effects

Lidocaine is contraindicated in animals with a known hypersensitivity to the drug.

Drug & Food Interactions

The following drug interactions have either been reported or are theoretical in humans or animals receiving lidocaine HCI and may be of significance in veterinary patients: Anesthetics, antiarrhythmics, beta-blockers, cimetidine, furosemdie, ketamine, phenobarbital, succinylcholine, and xylazine

Precautions

Lidocaine is usually well tolerated. Nevertheless, as with all local anesthetics, untoward effects may occur due to hypersensitivity, faulty technique, overdosage and inadvertent intravascular or subarachnoid injection. In case of respiratory arrest, immediate resuscitation with oxygen is indicated.
