FAQ
You don’t have a stinky cat, you have a stinky litter box. And while no animal has pleasant smelling waste, cat litter odor can be extra powerful. There are a variety of factors that make cat litter odor so strong. Cat urine is very concentrated, containing pheromones and hormones used to mark their territory. In addition, as cat urine breaks down, it releases an ammonia odor and mercaptans (the same smell produced by our smelly friend the skunk).
Controlling or eliminating litter odor is an issue that every cat owner has to tackle. The first step is to make sure your cat is properly trained and has access to a litter box with fresh litter in it. Most experts recommend having one more litter box than you do cats, so two boxes for one cat, three boxes for two cats and so on. The second step is maintaining the box by removing used litter regularly. Scoop clumps into a Litter Genie® pail to help lock litter and odor away.
Rule number one is always keep a clean litter box. Having a Litter Genie® pail next to your litter box is a great way to ensure that you have a place to lock away your used litter to keep your home fresh and your cat happy.

If it’s a one time issue, treat the affected area with water, vinegar and mild soap and blot dry. If it’s a repeated issue, consider moving your litter box, retraining your cat, or visiting the vet to make sure it’s not a medical issue.

Most cats prefer two inches of litter or less. Too deep, and your cat may not like their footing and opt to go to the bathroom elsewhere.

Jumbo-refill bags are TERRIBLE quality now - bring old manufacturer back!

I've been using Litter Genie forever and love the convenience. A couple years ago, I began noticing that the bag would sometimes tear when I pulled a filled bag from the Genie to toss. Used litter would then fall out all over the floor. I thought it was me until it was happening every time. That's when I started investigating and realized that the bags tearing were the ones from the jumbo refills. So I compared the packaging and saw that they were indeed made in different places. I used to stockpile these things so I'd had both in the pantry for some time. Turns out that the regular refills were made when the prior company, Edgewell, owned LG; the jumbo was made after the new company, Angelcare, bought it. I took a cutting from the jumbo refill bag and compared it to a cutting from the regular refill bag. Sure enough, the bags were very different. The jumbo bag was stretchy, so it would expand and get caught on the inside of the LG, while the regular bags didn't "give" so much and could be pulled out easily. I wrote an extensive note to the company in 9/25 and even sent pictures, telling them that if they started making the regular sized-refill bags the same as the jumbo, I would have to give up this (former) life saver. The reply I got was kind but focused on the color of the bags, as if that's all I'd complained about. (I had only mentioned a change in color.) When I responded with more frustration, I was ignored. I bought a new regular refill a few months ago and, while it's not exactly the same as it used to be, the regular bags do not stretch. So for now, I will keep using the LG. But my advice is: don't buy the jumbo refills. Cleaning up spilled used litter is worse than emptying the litter box. This all came flooding back tonight because I ran out of the regular size refills and ended up with litter all over my floor. Ugh! Had always meant to comment on here but never got to it until now. And if it seems strange for someone to spend this much time on litter bag investigations, it's that important. I have three cats and a LOT of used litter. Pictures attached are the ones I sent to the company back in September.
No complaints!

The strength this plastic has is amazing. I can fill the size of the litter genie and dispose the remaining litter without worrying about the weight of the waste ripping through. It holds the smells of the waste in both occasions of being in the litter genie and about to be disposed out my home. It’s crazy to say but I’ve unintentionally experimented leaving the bag in my home for a day in a half before remembering it had to be taken out and I gotta say the smell DID NOT GIVE IT AWAY. I have been using this brand for my litter genie for about a year or so. I’m a fan! Never has disappointed me.
Too large for the original Genie
I bought a pack of 2 thinking I could save some money by using the jumbo refills but they do not fit. The cartridge sits too high so the top doesn’t close. So basically
I bought a pack of 2 thinking I could save some money by using the jumbo refills but they do not fit. The cartridge sits too high so the top doesn’t close. So basically I’m wasted my money because I am stuffing a cut bag into the small cartridge which just uses so much of the roll.
Jumbo size not worth it
The manufacturer needs to come up with a starting point on these jumbo units. Either a pull tab or a mark. I've ended up wasting about 1/5 of the roll in order
The manufacturer needs to come up with a starting point on these jumbo units. Either a pull tab or a mark. I've ended up wasting about 1/5 of the roll in order to find the start. The regular size are easy and you can see where it starts. Each one of these jumbos have been difficult. I am on my 3rd one. Can't wait to go back to the standard size as there are no issues with them.

The fact that “litter stink” was radically diminished in our house when I began using the Litter Genie is only part of the story. What is great is how simple it is to change over when the Genie gets full. Changing litter used to be messy and time consuming, but that’s now in my past!

With The first order I couldn’t find the beginning of the bags so it stayed double which was a big waste of bags. The second one the opening was broken so the bags just spilled out. Also they are blue, not the clear bags like in the past. Not sure what’s going on but very disappointed. May try the smaller refill and hope for the best
Starting edge of bag is buried!
The starting edge of the bag is buried! Half of the product came out & the plastic keeper disengaged (from the refill cartridge). I have 5 Litter Genies for 5 cats!
The starting edge of the bag is buried! Half of the product came out & the plastic keeper disengaged (from the refill cartridge). I have 5 Litter Genies for 5 cats! This has happened on 2 jumbo refills so far from this batch! I don’t have time to manually re-stuff the bag back in the cartridge once I find the starting edge of the bag. Maybe they should put a “leader tape” on the edge that sticks out of the cartridge, it would be so much more effective!
“Crappy” job made easier

The Litter Genie Disposal System is a salvation item for us. Our strange cat will not use the litter box unless it's in the corner of the living room! When we try to move it, Larry just poops in that corner on the floor. So to have a way to dispose of the oderous poo in the litter box (in the living room!!) is wonderful. I highly recomment this system. Easy to understand, easy to change the bag once a week (for our one cat) easy to clean when needed.
The bag quality has changed
The Litter Genie refill was supposed to last 4 months it only lasted one month! The company changed the quality of the bag to a real thick bag that doesn't fit
The Litter Genie refill was supposed to last 4 months it only lasted one month! The company changed the quality of the bag to a real thick bag that doesn't fit well with my diaper genie. These refills are very expensive. I haven't started the second refill. Can I return this one and you send me two more of the refills with the thinner liners?
