Not actually gluten free

I want to love this product, but it's not actually reliably gluten free as advertised. It contains brewer's yeast which CAN be gluten free if sourced from non-gluten containing ingredients but that's not the case here. I emailed the manufacturer and they said that while their brewer's yeast is usually sourced from beets, "even when it is derived from brewing processes, it goes through a purification step that removes gluten proteins, making it safe for dogs with gluten sensitivities." This is just plain false. I have never heard of a process for gluten being removed from brewer's yeast, or any product for that manner, in a way that can be considered safe for a person or animal with a sensitivity (read Gluten Free Watchdog's reports if you're curious). I avoid gluten in my dog's food because I'm extremely sensitive to gluten and don't bring anything with gluten into my home, so this was disappointing to learn. People and animals with allergies can't settle for products that are sometimes safe. They should either decide to source it only from beets and note that on the label or remove the gluten free claim.
