Can they be used on carpeted steps?

The silicone pads under each ramp won't stick as well onto carpeted steps compared to wooden or tile steps.
Can the base on these be trimmed to shorten the dimensions front to back? I have 3 steps that are 8.5" front to back and 5 steps that are 9.5" front to back.

Dimensions 11.8 x 9.8 x 5.9 inches. They may be big, but stack ok. If you scroll down on info it will say See More+. Look there.
