We are very excited about this! Not having to open and close the coop, especially when the weather is bad, is a nice luxury. This unit runs on 4 x AA batteries, which was a little worrisome but after reading the manual and looking at the unit, I see there is a red light that will blink when the batteries are low. Phew! That is very reassuring. The instructions are very easy to read and assembly is simple. It comes with the screws needed for the install. I have two more small concerns. One is that the string that lifts and lowers the sliding door is very thin. Long term, I worry that it might wear and snap apart or a chicken might peck at it until it breaks. My other concern is that when the door is open, the bottom of the unit where the door rests when closed is exposed and if debris gets in there, it could prevent the door from closing properly, therefore putting the flock in danger. We will be sure to watch that closely by checking the unit after it closes so we will know if we can trust the unit should we leave home for a night. Overall, we are excited about this but we will monitor it for a while before we use it when we are away.
Cautiously optimistic

An automatic coop door is something that makes life much more convenient when raising chickens. However, the tiny string that's responsible for pulling the door open doesn't inspire much confidence in longevity. I also worry about the bottom getting filled with shavings as the birds go in and out and getting blocked. Being in NW Minnesota, we installed this on the inside of the coop and programmed it for time instead of light. I don't think that the battery life will hold up to our cold winters and we would need to get the power cord adapter if we wanted to use it into fall weather much. However, it's easy to install and program which was nice!

Wonderful and simple electronic door. Very easy to assemble with basic tools in less than 30 minutes. The chickens are enjoying they automated door and takes one item off my to do list in the morning. The door is fairly quiet as well. Only item I would mention is to double check the size of any existing chicken opening you have to make sure this is big enough for your needs.
So far, so good!

I've wanted one of these for quite some time and am excited to get it installed as soon as the weather permits. Its construction and parts feel durable, sturdy, and well made. In the meantime, I was impressed with several things. The instructions are not only easy to follow and clearly written, they were printed in a reasonable, large enough font, I wasn't left running for readers.l trying to navigate tiny print. The parts list and instructions were clear and concise with additional details and enlarged diagrams showing how smaller components are set up, leaving no room for error. Programming the clock and timer are easy to do and each step on the screen exactly matched the booklet. I appreciated the warnings detailed with do's and dont's as well as alternative installation options. The battery compartment cover stays secure, yet is easy to access w/o the need for a screwdriver which drives me crazy on other products. The best part is the 9-V adapter that disconnects the sleeve holding the AA batteries. This makes it extremely easy to install and remove batteries without the frustration of tiny wires and no working room. Just install the AA batteries and reconnect the 9V plug. It immediately turns on and is easily programmable.
Okay coop door but see some possible issues
Overall this was pretty easy to install. Directions are well written and straightforward. The door itself is well made and looks good. Easy to start up. My concern
Overall this was pretty easy to install. Directions are well written and straightforward. The door itself is well made and looks good. Easy to start up. My concern is I am not sure how well this door will hold up to predators trying to enter my coop. So far none have attempted but the plastic around the edges seems pretty easy to break. My other concern is the pull cord for the door. It is pretty weak and flimsy. I do not think it is going to hold up to weather for long. Time will tell but it is a very lightweight weak feeling cord.
There are better options

I've only had this door installed for a few weeks but it's already failed to close twice. It doesn't say any error so I'm not sure what's going on with it. I have another coop door that works fine so I don't think it's operator error. The setup was easy and installation was also easy if you're a bit handy. I wish it used more batteries or bigger ones because I have a feeling these won't last all that long. Do be aware that the power cord isn't included. It does mention it in one of the pictures but it isn't really obvious.
Could be stronger, hope it protects the hens
This is my third auto chicken door and i am not terribly impressed. It is made way less strong than the other brands. The door is literally opened by a string. Not
This is my third auto chicken door and i am not terribly impressed. It is made way less strong than the other brands. The door is literally opened by a string. Not sure how that will holdup in Michigan winters. Once i had the thing installed and put batteries in the cover would not fit and we ahd to trim around the batteries to get it to close and cover to be screwed on. It has only been installed a few days and stopped opening and closing so i recalibrated for the time instead of light and so far it is working.
easy and versatile coop door
I already had (and loved) an automatic door for my chicken coop, but the light sensor died so trying this one out. Can't speak to longevity, but out of the box
I already had (and loved) an automatic door for my chicken coop, but the light sensor died so trying this one out. Can't speak to longevity, but out of the box it's great. Can be set to open and close based on light levels, or on a timer. It's easy to program - the instructions are clear, as are the display/buttons on the unit itself. Hard to say how long the plastic frame around the sliding door will last, especially in direct sunlight, but it seems sturdy enough. I expect that having the cross-bar in the middle of the plastic frame could also help keep the door aligned within its track. Being able to get a plug-in adapter for it sounds nice, but I'm not expecting to use that feature. I do appreciate that the batteries can be swapped out without opening the entire control box and without any tools/screws. Overall, super impressed so far, and the only things I might be concerned about are eventual wear-and-tear of plastic from being out in the elements.
We love it!!
We received the chicken door last weekend. The packaging was nicely done My husband was so excited he installed it immediately. We decided to put it inside the coop
We received the chicken door last weekend. The packaging was nicely done My husband was so excited he installed it immediately. We decided to put it inside the coop and set it by the timer. You can put it on the outside and it will open and close by the daylight too. We went with the battery option also. There is a spot to plug in a 9v cord if you don’t want to use batteries. We love it! No more worrying about closing the door at night if we aren’t home. It also opens in the morning if we don’t get out there first thing so they can get out to their run.
Every Chicken Coop Needs One of These!

Love the automatic chicken coop door opener! Love that this one has versatile options of running off of batteries as well as a plug in electrical adapter. This makes chicken keeping so much easier and we would never be without one. It really frees you up from having to hear the chickens squawking for you to come out and open the coop door for them in the morning. And it’s so reassuring to know that they are safely closed up for the night automatically if you happen to be gone for the evening or out of town for a few days. Highly recommend having one of these.
