Does this filter come with everything needed to set up and start aquarium? Would it work for a 40 gallon breeder size tank that houses 4 goldfish and 2 algae eaters?

Answer by ChewySep 25, 2019
The Marineland Magniflow 220 Canister Filter comes with everything you need. It filters 200 gallons per hour and is suitable for tanks up to 55 gallons.

Any tips for quieting the waterfall? We have a turtle tank so the water does not reach the top of the aquarium and the water has to fall which makes it noisy.

Answer by ChewySep 23, 2021
You can raise the water level in the tank since turtles generally love deeper water for swimming and use a floating dock for basking. The other option is to remove the diffuser from the outlet and attach vinyl tubing to the outlet tubing. You can find this by the foot at a local DIY hardware store’s plumbing section. You will need tubing that is 5/8 inches ID.

Is this a quiet filter? Do you hear it when in the same room?

Answer by ChewyDec 29, 2020
This filter runs quietly when setup according to the manufacturer instructions.

What size hose does this model come with I need to purchase more and replace what I have it was cut too short and wouldn’t work then thrown away so not sure what size I need to get again?

Answer by ChewyAug 23, 2021

I had this for 3 years and it worked pretty well. It needs maintenance a couple times a month though. That is a pain. I woke up to the filter making a loud noise. Turns out to be a broke impeller. No problem I thought, I will just order one. Good luck with that. Out of stock everywhere. So now I have to buy another fiter so my tank won't die. What a pain. Don't buy.

Don't cheap out on canister filters. This thing required significant troubleshooting to set up, the priming pump is almost useless, the impeller started to make a racket after a week. The whole system required cleaning after just two weeks of operation. It no longer filters nearly as much water as when I first set it up, resulting in an incredibly dirty tank. Buy a fluval, or even 2 Zoomed Nano 30s. Maybe this thing would work fine in a small fish tank, but it's completely inadequate for a 55 gallon turtle tank. I can't stress enough how useless the priming pump is on mine. Even when I gave it a headstart by filling up the caniater, it took dozens of presses to get any water moving.

I have a 46 gallon fish tank full of Cichlids. These are very dirty fish. The filter I had was one that attached to the back of the aquarium. Every other day my water looked horrible. I decided, after hearing my daughter say this filter made her tanks water better, to take the plunge and buy this filter. Boy am I very happy I did. My tanks water is like crystal clear now. My fish seem to be happier too. What's even more exciting is when visitors come over and comment how nice my tank looks. Makes me very happy to of bought this filter.
