Administer with food. If the dog is sensitive to changes to diet, start administering with a smaller dosage for a few days to allow the dog to get used to the new ingredients gently.
The vast majority of pets happily eat maxxiSAMe mixed in their food. However, there are of course exceptions and some pets can be sensitive to new things being added to their diet, especially if they are older or are generally picky eaters. For these pets it can sometimes take a few attempts for them to get used to a new smell, taste or texture and in these cases, we recommend starting with a very small amount and working back up to the maintenance dose slowly. It is easy to mix the powder in with wet food but if your pet eats dry food you can add a little water (cold or luke warm, not hot) to help absorb the powder and release the food’s flavor. Alternatively, by adding a small amount of water to the powder, you can make a paste which you can either see if your pet will accept on its own or mix it with something he/she enjoys or even try mixing it in with the food.
maxxiSAMe contains only natural ingredients which are very safe and generally very well tolerated. However, it is possible for some pets to experience mild stomach upset when starting any new supplement, especially if the dosage is a large one or perhaps if a dog has a more sensitive tummy generally. In these cases, we recommend starting slowly with a smaller dosage for a few days to allow the pet’s system to get used to the ingredients more gently. Then build back up gradually to the recommended maintenance dose for the pet's weight. We also always recommend dividing the daily dosage between two servings if you are not already doing so. This helps to maximize the absorption of all the ingredients and this would also help your pet get used to the ingredients more gently.
