Some pets develop food intolerances or food allergies and grains can be difficult for a pet's stomach and intestines to break down. If your pet has a sensitive stomach, our Grain Free recipes can help their digestive system problems. At Merrick, our Grain Free recipes feature higher levels of proteins, omegas, glucosamine and chondroitin.
We are committed to using only the purest ingredients in our recipes. Our recipes contain no ingredients from China; no poultry by-products; no artificial additives or preservatives; no artificial flavors or colors; no corn, wheat or soy; and no glutens. My cats love all of these varieties especially the rabbit. When I heard Merrick was discontinuing them I near had a fit. They are a great product, nutritious, and meaty but soft. Nobody else makes anything like this and I’m very disappointed in Merrick for dropping this.
My cat didn't like it
Probably good food but my cat didn't like it. She just sniffed it and walked away. After much coaxing I was able to get her to taste the gravy. Big nope! I'm sure

This is my kitty’s favorite food
When I can’t get my kitty with renal issues to eat, I put this out and she goes for it.

my kitties loves this stuff!

I've got two kittens who eat a combination of kitten and "all life stages" wet food, for variety. I decided to try Merrick Backcountry with them to add another option to their rotation. From the first bite, they loved it. I have a hard time getting it into their bowls because they're climbing to the counter and trying to stick their faces right into the pouch! (For what it's worth, I don't love that it comes in a pouch and really hope Merrick starts selling this in cans.) This cat food smells like food, which I appreciate. Some other brands... phew. Not pleasant to a human's sniffer. It looks like small, meaty chunks, which is a texture my cats enjoy - they prefer shreds and chunks over pates. These chunks aren't too big for their little mouths, and they seem soft. I tried squishing one of the pouches before opening it and found that the chunks inside mashed down some without much pressure. And they're in a nice bit of gravy, which again, my cats really like. So this was right up their alley. I appreciate that the first few ingredients are all animal proteins or broth. No gluten or grains. I also appreciate that there's a bit of salmon oil included in the mix, for a boost of omega 3's. And this duck flavor doesn't contain chicken, but rather has turkey, which makes it helpful for keeping up with my kitties' preference for variety. If I give them the same food twice in a row, they make sure I know they aren't happy. So the mix here of duck and turkey keeps them from complaining that I give them too much chicken... :) All in all, my kitties are happy with this food, and so am I.
Attention Chicken allergies
My chix allergy cat loves the duck , beef, and rabbit. He’s only 6lbs and this food in very big chunks so I put it in the food processor but he’s worth the extra
