Why do all Power Bites treats contain brown sugar?

They use natural sugar to help with texture (the treats are soft and easy to break apart) and acts as a natural preservative. This also helps enhance flavor.
Are these treats for adult dogs only? What about 6 mo old Shih Tzu?
