This seems to be a good size cage for a Syrian hamster. We have had him 3 weeks now and he mostly hangs out in his little house all day. He really only comes out at night to run on the wheel. It has been fairly easy to clean. There are grid marks on the floor of the cage that may bother his feet? Not sure.
Nice cage, but too small for a Syrian. It's only 350 Sq cm and they need 450. But it's too short with the center piece in it (the 2nd floor). I like how deep the base is and my hamster likes the red house, but I had to take the center floor out to give her enough height room. The water bottle is OK, it falls a lot and she chewed the rubber around the metal spout, but works OK. Before removing the center piece she never used the wheel. Assuming it's too small for her, but did use the ramp. The bowl is fine. This cage would be nice for a dwarf hamster or mouse, but only if you add onto it of course.
We’ve had this cage probably around 2 months. Yesterday, it was obvious something was wrong with our hamster as she was inactive even when I fed her. An hour later she was making these squealing noises she has never made before (We’ve had her a year). We googled the noise and it said the hamster is stressed or under distress (nothing has changed in her environment to cause this). My son then tried to fill up her water bottle that came with this unit and the steel ball was missing, so I truly believe the hamster ate the ball. Another negative is the hamster will make the water bottle drop off the wall because its not secured properly. I love the unit besides the water bottle. It is spacious for a hamster.
This is a great cage for easy cleaning and 2 levels of space. He loves going downstairs and playing in fluff then doing circuits on both levels. But plan on buying another water bottle and, if you have a Syrian, wheel. There was enough space for a larger wheel and working water bottle. We are connecting it to another play area too.
I like everything about this cage except the water bottle. It does not work. Also the hamster chewed on the rubber around the spout. I was concerned it might hurt her. Please note this and get one that hangs outside on the cage. Always check the water level daily to make sure the pet is getting water. It is very important they stay hydrated.
Well made and easy to clean. Using as a temporary home for my king quail. Added a big ramp and he runs around making happy sounds.
I watched most of Victoria Raechel’s YouTube series about hamsters before buying a hamster cage. I wanted a bar-cage to start bc I’m a new hamster care-taker and bar cages are light and Easy to move as I figure out where in the apt he is most comfortable. The only bar cage that meets the minimum req for a hamster is the Kaytee SUPER Habitrail, but I hated the garish colors and wasn’t sure if my hamster would be happy in it or not? This option is mostly white, with the little red accents (that I think I’ll replace with wood or white for a more subdue and natural look). I am pretty sure they are color blind but it also feels so wrong to place them in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory agains their will. Although this is technically under the minimum I can tell my robo is totally overwhelmed by it! I’m sure he only lived his live in small cages before, so I tried to make this comfy for him and bring as much of his unsoiled bedding and toys into the cage. Day one and he’s mostly just stayed in the bedding hiding. He’s also only been with me for a week, so it may take some time to build confidence. The wheel is a bit wobbly so I ordered a fancy silent runner for him, he seems like he needs a solid wheel to burn off his energy on. I like that this cage has more upper floor space for additional toys and a sand bath. I don’t love the small door at the top (not easy to get in the cage and clean while they sleep). The Kaytee SUPER has not a lot of floor space up top but a ton of digging room below and a large rooftop door for easy cleaning. I was going to take the Kaytee one back due to the absurd blue color, but maybe once my robo gets a little older he’ll be ready for a bigger cage. I might keep both? Still undecided.
My son’s dwarf hamster loves this cage, he has a lot of space to roam. The only reason that I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because the water bottle needed to be replaced. It either leaked or didn’t give any water, there was no in between.
I like this cage. Super easy to clean. Not huge but can be connected to multiple cages. I have a 4 cage system currently. I do wildlife rehab so this cage has been a go to for mice, squirrels at intake and chipmunks. A chipmunk over wintered in the 4 cage tube connected set up. The middle can be lifted out if desired. the accessories are handy but can be substituted if desired. For my purposes, it is very versatile. The center floor can be cracked if not handled gently so be aware of that but all in all I will probably be buying more of these cages.
The size is decent for being only less than $50.00. Also adding in what it comes with. Has the bottle and holder, food dish, decent sized wheel, house, latter, and was pretty simple to put together. Slowly put the white screw in while adjusting your wheel. I put mine all the way in (wheel won't turn as easily) and well, need plyers to take it back out but all is well. There is a top floor where you can add things then a whole bottom floor for her other inside the habitat house. Description does come with sizes so I got what I expected! Recommended.
