Lack of consistency

Starter mash for chicks was great on first order for the 2lb bag. Next I ordered the same in a larger bag. The food was the exact same as the grower/layer version

Starter mash for chicks was great on first order for the 2lb bag. Next I ordered the same in a larger bag. The food was the exact same as the grower/layer version I bought for the mature hens which was way too large for little chicks to eat. The smell was different too. Will not buy again & cannot recommend.

I thought this was a starter/grower, and it is starter only. It is so fine and powdery that my week-old Buff Orpington chicks got into the dish and used it a a dusty

I thought this was a starter/grower, and it is starter only. It is so fine and powdery that my week-old Buff Orpington chicks got into the dish and used it a a dusty bath! I've ended up trying to use it up by fermenting it, adding water and keeping it in the fridge for several days, so that they have manageable grains that aren't specks

Worked well for guinea keets

I got this for my first experience with guinea keets. Several years prior, I raised about 100 chicks, and all of them favored a Ranch-Way mash feed over everything

I got this for my first experience with guinea keets. Several years prior, I raised about 100 chicks, and all of them favored a Ranch-Way mash feed over everything else. The Ranch-Way owners retired and sold their business with some of their recipes, and there was no starter mash available from the new company. The turkey starter crumbles I got instead were too big for the little keet beaks to readily pick up, so at first, I ground mealworms for them to eat while I searched for a good starter mash. I tried this, and even when they got larger, I think they still like the organic mash better than the crumbles with a more standard list of ingredients. Between this starter mash and the daily mealworms, the keets were beginning to fly a couple days before three weeks. I don't know if that's normal for guinea keets, but from my memory, it seemed as though they grew much more quickly than the chicks did. I will mention that the keets get very excited about mealworms, and haven't gotten excited about either the mash or crumbles they've had yet at about 7 weeks of age.

The ingredients are superb, the texture great for baby chicks. They love it and have gobbled it down from the beginning. Now I ferment most of it as they absolutely appreciate it this way. Be prepared for a day or 2 of more liquid poops then before but soon our chicks' guts had adjusted. Fermenting the mash isn't only supporting the chicks' health but also saves waste. Important thing is the product is amazing in quality and chicks absolutely love it!

This is feed was great when my serama chicks were newborns. They are so tiny, they struggle to eat any chick food unless chopped smaller. The first bag I bought from the manufacture was a great texture. When I bought a big bag from chewy it came more powdery and is very dusty. I am afraid they will get it in their eyes and nose because it's like powder. It would be great if the manufacturer didnt grind this down so much it becomes dust.
