The amounts in the table are intended as guidelines only. The food intake should be adjusted according to the age, weight, breed, temperature, climate and activity level of your dog. Consult a veterinarian for specific weight recommendations.

Adult dogs should be fed either once or twice per day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diet Dry Dog Food, we suggest starting with the amounts recommended in the table. Energy requirements vary with environmental conditions, temperature and activity of your dog. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog's needs.

For pregnant females: A minimal increase is needed during the first 6 weeks. Increase the amount fed up to 25% during weeks 7, 8, and 9. For lactating females: Immediately after whelping, the nutritional demand increases by 50% compared to maintenance levels. Feed in 3 equal meals per day. For working dogs: Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the workload increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels. For older dogs: As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for a less active dog.

Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog's diet, the change should be made gradually by replacing the current food with increasing portions of Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets® Sweet Potato & Venison Dry Dog Food. The change should be completed after 5 - 7 days. The maintenance of proper body weight is most important for your dog's health. Consult your veterinarian for specific weight recommendations for your dog.

  • Mija loves it!

    By on

We adopted Mija from a shelter. 1.5 year old female black lab mix. She was underweight, stiff, showing all her ribs, and her coat was very wiry. She immediately loved her food. Per our vet, we have added a probiotic powder once a day, and some Missing Link to her daily regimen. The results in 10 days have been amazing. She has gained 2.5 lbs, is very regular (4-5 times a day). Her coat is shiny silky black and she is flying around the backyard chasing squirrels thru woods. One happy pup! Her tail wags as she eats. This food is her soul source of nutrition (other than a few Science Diet treats). So far we are a believer.

  • Wonderful and Tasty

I have a German Shepherd who suffers from terrible allergies and the only food he can eat is either venison or kangaroo. He absolutely hates the kangaroo and absolutely loves the Venison and devours it happily which is something he has never done with other food. We were on Royal Canin venison which cost close to $100, but they are having some weird venison shortage and are no longer providing the food which is very inconvenient for a dog that can't eat anything else. So I started investigating other brands and wanted to make sure I got something that was acceptable for him that didn't have a bunch of extra stuff that would cause him to have allergy problems and I selected this brand and he is I have a German Shepherd who suffers from terrible allergies and the only food he can eat is either venison or kangaroo. • Trying this in search of better nutrition

I had to switch food when my usual brand starting adding chicken meal into the formula (salmon & sweet potato) and it gave my dog really bad allergies. Many other brands include chicken byproducts or chicken meal in non-chicken related food which is super frustrating if you don't want your dog eating it. So far the switch has gone well, his coat is very glossy and he has a lot of energy with no itching! It's about the same price as my last brand - also a high quality food - but a smaller bag. It appears you feed about the same amount so I expect this will cost a bit more but I feel good quality food is important for a healthy pup. • It's ok but not great.

    By on Top 500 Contributor

Usual I feed my dog Acana, Orijen (dry food)and many kind of brand wet food ,Raw food or freeze dried food. I found out that My dog has allergic with many thing. Vet recommended to feed Venison. ( sounds like my Vet's one of favorite dry dog food is this Natural Balance L.I.D.) Unfortunately my dog seems like not like it so much. She just doesn't come to bawl. But she would eat if I don't feed anything else.however she left some in the dish.

  • Great for a sensitive stomach

    By on

After going through months of food sensitivity with my Silken Windhound I found that he had become allergic to chicken. After finding that most puppy food has chicken in it, I was at a loss until I came across Natural Balance. Since it's a limited ingredient food it's ok for all stages. My dog loves it and has normal poops every time now.

  • Great Dry Food and Outstanding Company

    By on

I have just started this food line and so far it is perfect for all 5 dogs ranging from 1 year to 13 years old. No problem in changing over from a prescription food that was discontinued by the veterinarian due to to health reasons on an older dog. Chewy.com is great! They stand by their products and service. I consistently recommend them to everyone.

  • Sketcher cannot eat foods with any type of poultry

    By on

When Sketcher was a pup, he lost all his hair on his chest and around his face. After skin tests, we found he was allergic to chicken/by-products, which 98% of all dog foods use. After checking the ingredients, I found Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Venison has no poultry. His hair returned and is now a very handsome boy.

  • Still good but something changed.

    By on

I fed this to my allergy dogs for years until we discovered PureVita Venison & Red Lentils. Honestly, nothing comes close to PureVita but since Chewy no longer carries it, I went back to Natural Balance Venison. While it still does the trick at keeping my dogs allergic reaction from happening, they're less enthusiastic about eating it & it does look different than it used to. I know Natural Balance was sold a year or so ago & not sure if there were changes with the recipe or if my dogs tastebuds were just more pleased with their last food. I'll safely purchase this when my local store is out of PureVita & feel confident that I'm feeding my dogs a safe food but it's not gonna be my go-to since I fed this to my allergy dogs for years until we discovered PureVita Venison & Red Lentils. • Finally solid poop!

    By on

My dog loves this food and I love how nice it is on his digestive system. His poops are finally solid and easy to pick up. Before I leave for work I give him a kong stuffed with this dry food and some of the same wet food and he's entertained and happy.
