We have exclusively used this dog food for the last 1.5 years. It was the only thing my GSD could put weight on with - she has a severe chicken allergy. The last few bags the kibble has looked and smelled different. More notable than that, my girls both got terrible diarrhea that required going out every couple hours in the middle of the night and accidents around the house. We observed increased thirst and urination with our husky. I opened the last bag I had on hand this morning and the food was clumped together as other reviews have mentioned. We will be moving to a completely different food as I’ve lost trust in this brand for being a safe option.

I switched my dogs to the Natural Balance sweet potato and venison in mid October. I have used the chicken and sweet potato in the past with these dogs and prior dogs with no issue. My 2 year old male boxer started drinking excessive amounts of water and needing to urinate frequently. He was also leaking urine during his naps and overnight starting 2 weeks ago. I scheduled a vet appointment. We did blood work which came back with elevated kidney levels. He also had a urine test which came back with high protein levels. He has never had any issues these past two years until now. We have an abdominal ultrasound scheduled in 2 weeks. Last night I started doing research on the food. I don’t know what made me even think to do that to be honest. I saw a review from a woman named Beverly dated 12/31/25. She explained the exact same symptoms that my dog was having. Needless to say we have stopped the food completely and are giving them a bland diet. I’m hoping this will correct the problem. I’m going to ask the vet to rerun the tests in a week or so to check the levels again. Also, I did notice changes in the food the last couple bags, darker color and food clumps stuck together.

There have been some minor formula updates to this recipe including replacing brewers dried yeast with dried yeast, the addition of threonine, potassium chloride, and tryptophan, and a slight ingredient order change. My dog hates the change! He eats as little as possible. He lost 15% of his body weight in 2 months. I found some old formula recipe in a 4 pound bag at the pet store and he devoured it! Going to be scoping out pet stores the next few days in hopes of finding more of the old recipe.

My dog has been doing great on this food until the last couple of bags. Like others mentioned, a couple of bags ago, I noticed the food was a darker color. My dog became so sick I had to take her to the vet. She got a little better and, at the time, I didn't realize it was the food because she was always eager to eat it. When she started this last bag of food, she began drinking excessive amounts of water, wanted to go outside to urinate every few minutes and even started leaving pools of urine where she napped. I finally realized this new behavior had begun when she began this most recent bag of food. I switched her to boiled chicken and rice and she immediately went back to drinking a normal amount of water and there have been no further accidents in the house. It's so disappointing to find a food that works for your dog only to have the quality go downhill. Now I have to find another food that will work for her allergies.

My pup is strong and healthy. She still runs around like she’s not 10 years old. She loves the venison flavor the best so that’s what we’ve stuck to. We’ve never had a problem with this brand, and when we recently moved and shifted to using Chewy it’s been so nice not having to worry about when to go out and pick up her food. It comes every 5-ish weeks which is perfect for our girl with still plenty for back up incase of delay.

My dogs have been on this food for years. Lately, the food has been off. The last bag had huge clumps of food stuck together and made my dog sick right away. Had to throw it out. However, the last couple bags she's been drinking excessive amounts of water and urinating in her sleep. After seeing other reviews with the same problem, we are switching foods.

Multiple bad bags

I had the same problem as many recent reviewers. My sensitive dog has been on this food for many years, it was the only product she did well on. I often have 3 or so extra bags on hand from auto ship before i start cancelling a couple. Opened a bag, way darker in color than usual. She ate it, threw up, and refused to eat another bite. 2 days with no food. I opened another bag and it was back to normal. She ate the whole thing. Called Chewy thinking i got 1 bad bag, they quickly shipped me a new one and had me throw out the bad one. Next bag I opened was dark in color again, dog wouldn't eat it. Opened another, same. Opened the last one, same. 3 bad bags my dog wouldn't eat. I checked the batch #s and they were from 2 batches, both bad. Called Chewy again, they told me the formula did not change. I had to send the 3 bags back, but they paid shipping and gave a full refund. 5* for Chewy, 1* for the food.
