Feeding Instructions

Weight Daily Feeding (cup)
Up to 10 lbs 1/2 - 1
10 - 20 lbs 1 - 1 1/2
20 - 30 lbs 1 1/2 - 2
30 - 40 lbs 2 - 2 1/2
40 - 60 lbs 2 1/2 - 3 1/2
60 - 80 lbs 3 1/2 - 4 1/2
80 - 100 lbs 4 1/2 - 5 1/2

These feeding guidelines are suggested only. Feeding amounts may vary by breed, activity level, temperament and climate. Amounts are recommended for an average dog with normal activity. Adjust feeding guideline according to your dog’s age, activity level, and environment.

Adult dogs: Feed either once or twice a day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® Vegetarian Dry Dog Food, we suggest starting with the amounts recommended in the table. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog’s needs. Working dogs: Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the workload increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels. Older dogs: As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for a less active dog.

We recommend that you do not add vitamins, minerals, or any other supplements, except upon the advice of a veterinarian. Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog's diet, the change should be made gradually by replacing the current food with increasing portions of Natural Balance® Vegetarian Dry Dog Food. The change should be completed after 5 - 7 days. The maintenance of proper body weight is most important for your dog's health. Consult your veterinarian for specific weight recommendations for your dog.

  • Cleared my dog’s skin!!

    By on

My dog had skin issues for years and would literally bite and scratch at himself until he bled. It was really bad and effected his behavior eventually. I tried grain free, very high quality food and he still was having issues. When I went vegan, I looked into my dog being vegan and heard about vegan dog food clearing dog skin issues. I did more research and weighed my options, and ended up buying this food because it was most easily available. About a month after we switched, my dog was no longer itching and making himself bleed! He has been vegan for about 2 years now, and is in phenomenal health! I know it’s the vegan food because if he ever gets a hold of meat, he breaks out and itches! • excellent product

my black lab is 5 months he loves this food. I get it wet and it makes a tasty gravy for him. I also put just a little bit of tunafish and its juice and mix it with the dry food and he loves it. dogs are omnivores for a reason. a little bit of this wholesome great quality vegan food and a little bit of fish and he is good to go. even without the little amount of fish juice added I trust this product to sustain my dogs health and well being 100 percent. the food smells good. most other kibbles are made with nasty liver and god knows what other bodily organs that give off a terrible smell and aren't necessary for nutrition. I trust the wuality ingredients of this food whole heartedly.

  • Great Pyrenees Prefers Over Meat-Based Food

First off, being a lover of science, I want to dispel some misinformation- dogs are omnivores, not carnivores. Having an intestinal tract that is medium sized (not quite as long as an herbivore- i.e. humans, and not as short as a carnivorous cat) they can absolutely thrive on a BALANCED diet of plants. Unfortunately the majority of meat based dog foods on the market are of a poor quality, cause unnecessary suffering for the associated animals and contribute to greenhouse gases. With this information, I made the decision to purchase this product (although I will eventually switch to V-Dog food as they solely produce vegan dog food) and my dog gobbles it up unlike how she did with the meat based First off, being a lover of science, I want to dispel some misinformation- dogs are omnivores, not carnivores. • The ultimate allergen-free diet!

    By on

Shiba Inus are sensitive to a lot of ingredients, so when my 5 month old developed allergies to Victor adult and puppy formula and allergies to an organic chicken and rice formula we went to the vet. They said that chicken is the most common food allergy for dogs, followed by beef and fish. It was advised that we switch to a non-animal protein diet for at least the 6 wks it would take for the allergy to leave her system (after which we could try uncommon proteins such as bison, venison, rabbit, alligator, etc.). Natural Balance Vegetarian is a huge hit! My pup races too her bowl and licks it long after the food is gone. She genuinely loves it as much as a meat formula. • Best Food on the Market

    By on

This is my favorite dog food. I have a old dog with allergies to almost all dog foods. We tried soy free, gain free, organic and they would all be fine for a few months and then she would get her allergic cough. Being a vegetarian myself and researching how bad meat can be, I decided to try this vegan dog food since my dog does ok on the other natural balance foods. She has now been on this food for 2 years with no cough and no skin rash. She is a sharpei pit pull almost 15 years old and still plays like a puppy!

  • Awesome food

I've been giving this to my 3 adult dogs (black lab, husky/Shepard, and queenie mix) for a couple of years now. They all love the flavor of the food. Their coats are super soft and they are healthy (not over weight and the vet always given them a clean bill of health). I recommend this food because it is healthy and you know there is no meat byproduct that could make them sick.

  • Shhhh my pups a vegan!

    By on

I struggled for a couple of years trying to find the perfect dog food to assist my dachshund with her severe allergies. I finally found it in this food. No more hair loss, no skin irritation, and no pustules! She loves it, (tbh she eats anything) but she does gobble it right up. I supplement her nutrition needs with a tablespoon of pumpkin on top. Her only request is that we not tell the other dogs that she's a Vegan...says it might tarnish her carnivore reputation!

  • My dogs' favorite Vegan formula

    By on

When I switched my dogs to vegan in 2015, we tried several vegan kibbles (Halo, Vdog, a couple others). This is the one they liked right away and never got tired of. I honestly think they like it better than any of the meat-based kibbles they've had over the years. Luckily, it's the cheapest (as far as giant bags go). I do supplement their kibble with a vegan "stew" that I make for them just to keep things interesting and provide some fresh food. My 11 yr old recently had blood work and the vet was amazed at how healthy he is.

  • Not bad - -

Gus likes this just fine, gobbles it up with no problem. Decent sized kibble. Gus and I are not vegetarians. This is used as just a base to add various top quality and non-rendered protein (and fat) sources. This allows me to control the type and amount depending on the weather, energy expenditures, etc. This way he has something different every day. I don't believe in feeding multiple protein sources at each and every meal. Gus is not fussy, he will eat almost anything edible, and somethings that are not. It may not work for your dog. I give it four stars because it is not organic. I only bought it because Chewy is out of the Petguard formula, and this is the only other vegetarian Gus likes this just fine, gobbles it up with no problem. Decent sized kibble. • Reluctant vegetarian

Our dog was recently diagnosed with kidney disease in addition to pancreatitis so following a recommended diet was a challenge. She prefers this over the prescription vegetarian. She'd prefer a steak but feels much better with this.
