Finch Blend seed requires insert modification
We bought this feeder for Finch Blend seeds. Without the nyjer thistle insert, the food was mostly on the ground by the end of the day. With the nyjer thistle insert,
We bought this feeder for Finch Blend seeds. Without the nyjer thistle insert, the food was mostly on the ground by the end of the day. With the nyjer thistle insert, the finches were completely frustrated and hungry. Taking out the insert divisions and filing smooth we have happy feeding finches. The finch seed blend is so much less expensive than nyjer thistle, less waste and mess than sunflower seed hulls, and with this modification we finally have a working feeder. Secondly, we wish the feeder top was not flat as finches sit and poop on it, but that's a minor inconvenience.
Impossible to clean
The concept is good but you can't get the pieced to come apart so it can be cleaned. Eventually it gets so dirty it could make the birds sick.
