I've read so many great reviews about this product, however, it does NOT work for stable (biting) flies. Stable flies are affected and repelled best by the chemical, Picaridin. Pyrethrins, permethrins, and all other chemicals and combinations for fly repellent on horses, just can't do what Picaridin does, to repel biting, stable flies. War Paint is fine for other flying insects. It also does however, take weeks to remove! I. Fact, even after 5 baths, my thoroughbred STILL has some on him. If you don't have a huge issue with biting flies and it doesn't matter if the paste stays on your horse for lengthy periods of time, go for it! But remember to rotate insects repellents, and also know that most of the flies sprays are knock downs, meaning you have to actually spray the flies. If I don't use Picaridin based products, NOTHING stops the biting flies! I watch them land directly on all other fly sprays, and they don't care at all. They eat right through it!

Amazing for belly and ear flies.

I have used this for several years. It is the only thing I have found that works well against the small flies that chew their midline and sheath areas. I wipe it on sparingly like deodorant and it lasts for 5 to 6 days. SWAT another type just melt right off and have to be reapplied daily. This stuff lasts! I put one swipe from inside to the tip of their ear, and no more chewing bloody holes in their ears. I have been using it for years after it was recommended by my vet.
