Nite Ize RadDog All-In-One Dog Collar + Leash, Red, Large

Really liked this collar and concept, but it broke after 2 months of use... the leash no longer retracts so now its unusable. :(

I like using this collar when we go on off-leash trails. We live in an area where mountain bikers, trail runners, and hikers are aplenty. Our dog gets startled easily with mountain bikers. It's really nice to have this leash/collar function so I can grab her quickly and easily when a biker passes. I love it so far! I also like that we got the red color. My dog is a German shepherd mix, so she blends in very well with the landscape (think PNW rainforest). The bright red helps me track her better. I only give it 4 stars because I worry about how well it will hold up over time. The leash itself is a very skinny cord. I compare it to the size and feel of a round shoe lace. I have a 65 lb dog who listens very well and pulls a little bit, so this all in one collar is great for us. I think if you have a strong puller, this wouldn't be good for you. Dirt and water will get on/in this collar, it's inevitable. That makes me worry about how this collar will hold up given the context of how we use it on trails.

My dog is a 19 In. Cockapoo, with a 12" neck. I got her the smaller size - the fit is great, and it is adjustable. The Leash part and buckle are not too big or bulky on her. I was worried this would be too much but it's great, was stiff at first now it's broken in and fits great. For my use - it's perfect. My dog is an off leash walker, and I let her self walk at parks and open areas. that doesn't always go over well with other dog owners in the city. This product is really great. It's easy for crossing streets for the added piece of mind, and when approaching other dogs and their owners that do not want to interact with us. My dog is middle age and mellow, doesn't pull too much, doesn't run off. So this collar is such an awesome design. I've lost or forgot leash's, the all in one design works great for myself and my dogs walking style. This is used daily. again, dogs small and not a puller. So the full durability can't really be put to the test. I would confidently say if your an owner with the same walking style with the right dog this product is build very well. And can handle a larger dog for sure. If your dog is not very well behaved or tends to lunge or pull and is more that 30 ib, it would be a lot safer to stick to something with metal hardware from leash to collar/harness. The retractable cord is smooth and tough. The length is on the shorter side perfect for me. And the handle usually orientates itself on the back / top of the dogs neck, to my surprise. It's great for living in apartment building where short trips down the hall and out front are frequent. The price is great. All in all I love this it works very very well for my dog and I.
