What litter should I use with the cateco litter box?

I’m confused. If the urine flows through the filter into the underpaid, then does that mean I shouldn’t expect to see clumps in my clumping litter?

This litter box kit includes a scoop that is the perfect tool for easy sifting and effective clump removal. It is recommended that clumps be removed from the top section on a daily basis, however, you’ll only need to give your litter box a complete clean every 3-5 months if you’re using a high-quality, clumping cat litter.

I feel obligated to write a review bc this product is excellent. We have had the same box for about 4 years with NO complaints. We use wood pellets and clean the box about once every two weeks. It doesn’t leak and it doesn’t smell. The secret is to have enough fresh pellets on the top surface so your kitty won’t dig down and do his/ her business directly on the mesh separator. Also, we use baking soda on the mesh surface before putting fresh litter in. That may also help with leakage. If you use this product as designed it is great. We have never had an odor and I am super sensitive to smells. It is worth the investment.

Leaked

Unfortunately this litterbox just didn't work for my cats. The bottom leaked and didn't go onto the little pad like it was supposed to. I really wanted it to work

Great litter box

As you read through other reviews, please note that the lady who gave one star was trying to use this box as if it were a Breeze. It is not. This litter box is

As you read through other reviews, please note that the lady who gave one star was trying to use this box as if it were a Breeze. It is not. This litter box is designed to be used with about 1-2" of clumping litter. As the level gets low, or if your cat digs a corner low, any leaked urine will catch on the pad and tray under. There is an outer frame that holds a nylon bottom screen in place utilizing an inner snap frame. You can remove these parts and wash and replace them as desired . The under pads can be changed every week or as needed. I tried this box with a few types of litter, specifically crystal clumping and Fresh Step Outstretch, before settling on Tidy Cats Free & Clean multi cat. The crystal litter formed very hard chunks that adhered to the nylon screen and were difficult to remove. The Outstretch litter was so fine grained that a lot of it shifted through the nylon screen. *IF you use a non-absorbant litter, the pad WILL not hold an entire days worth of urine AND the tray below is designed with airflow to reduce bacteria odors, not contain a higher volume of liquid.

Urine is not supposed to leak but be absorbed by the litter on top and used with one of their dry pads so anything that "would" leak gets absorbed instead of sticking to the bottom... Such a simple and yet efficient drying concept to keep bacterial growth and odours to a minimum.

I use this for my two cats and they share one unit wonderfully. The pee pad needs to be changed usually twice a week. We scoop litter daily or every other day. Add litter every few poop scoops. Replace litter maybe once a month or whenever is needed. I mainly got this for odor reduction and it is definitely the best option I have found for the price. I tried one of the automatic litter scoopers and while they looked nice they weren't as automatic as you would like for such an expensive device with expensive litter trays. The smell wasn't nearly as contained as I expected with those and the Cateco has been great. The smell doesn't linger after the cats go to the bathroom anymore. It will stink for a few minutes then go away, if it lingers you know you need to change pad or litter. The top and bottom also align very easily the other reviewer must've got a bad product or user error. Have had this for about a year now. Wish they didn't require the custom fit dry pads for the best fit/result but the price for them isn't too bad. Averaged out to 5-10 a month after buying a handful of boxes at a time while on sale. Easier daily maintenance to use than a normal litterbox however it is still a bit tedious considering the cleaning that is required every so often. Also even with the raised lid my cats get tons of litter everywhere but that would happen on almost every liter box.
