Transition Instructions
When first introducing your pet to Nulo, we recommend slowly transitioning over the course of 5 to 7 days to reduce the risk of digestive upset that can occur with a rapid change in diet. We recommend portioning 25% of the new food on the first day mixed with 75% of the former food. Over the course of several days, gradually increase this ratio until you are feeding 100% of the new food. This will allow your pet's digestive system time to adjust to any new ingredients and will help to ensure a smooth transition. Mixing up proteins can be a great way to provide variety to your pet's diet. Once your pet has transitioned to the Nulo platform, rotating between recipes is generally seamless!
These protein-rich diets have proteins from animal sources as the first 3-4 ingredients. Low-carb and low-glycemic ingredients provide stable energy levels, while the proprietary GanedenBC30 probiotic aids digestive and immune health. Plus, they’re made without pea protein, white potatoes, corn, tapioca, wheat or soy.
Raising the Bar on What’s in Their Bowl
From their careful selection of ingredients—like protein-rich turkey, lamb, salmon, chicken, beef and duck—to low-glycemic carb source choices like lentils, chickpeas, barley, oat, millet and sweet potatoes, Nulo approaches pet food the way they approach everything—no shortcuts allowed.
(Nu)trition + (Lo)ve
Nutrition and love are at the core of everything Nulo does. That is why they only use the finest ingredients to craft their high-meat, low-carb recipes. So go ahead and show your pet some love with the wholesome nutrition of Nulo foods.
Healthier Together
Since day one, Nulo has been committed to inspiring pet parents to live healthier together with their pets. That starts with nutrition—animal-based proteins for muscle, low carbs for a healthy weight, and probiotics for immune support are just a few of the ways each recipe provides your pet with a healthy start at every meal. So whatever the day brings, from a big stretch to endless fetch, your best friend will be ready!
What’s the Secret? Real Food!

Where does the salmon come from? Is it wild caught or farm raised
Answer by • Jul 18, 2022
Nulo uses wild-caught salmon from both Pacific and Atlantic waters (regions can vary based on the migratory path of the wild population), and includes a variety of species: Chinook (King), Chum (Keta), Humpy (Pink), Sockeye (Red), Coho (Silver), and Alaskan. As part of an intensive quality control program, the fish ingredients are tested for potential contaminants including heavy metals like mercury, to ensure that they are safe. Nulo also requires that the fish is sourced naturally-preserved without the use of ethoxyquin. A certificate of analysis (COA) is required to accompany every ingredient upon arrival to the pet food kitchen to ensure that it meets strict requirements for nutrient and microbiological analysis before being used.
My dog has sensitivity issues and is a picky eater. He’s been on this Nulo Freestar Salmon and Red Lentil for several months now and I don’t see any improvements in his health. He refused to eat it since day one and I would just leave it out until he starved and have no choice but to eat. He licks his paws more often now causing his white coat to turn reddish brown which I know is a yeast infection. (See photo)
On top of that he’s starting to scratch under his chin often too. Nulo advertise that it’s grain free, but I don’t think so. He also poops more than before and he’s been feeling less active. Will not purchase Nulo anymore. Not a good fit for my dog. I have half a bag that will go unused.

Gave both my dogs hotspots
This product... Smells like cheap kibble (you know that smell, right?), and gave both my dogs hotspots where they wouldn't stop licking and licking within days. It started before they were even fully switched over, and intensified when they were fully on this food. Also made my Yorkie's fur dull and rough and tangly.
Giving it two stars because I'm sure it's better than.....something out there. I'll have to donate the rest, and I feel badly even doing that. I'm on disability, and really don't make enough to have to replace this (larger than I usually buy) bag of food. But that's how badly it affected my dogs. I will have to. Weirdly, it also made them poop more frequently, even though I fed them the same amount as their last food. Tells me they're likely not digesting it well.

My littles love it
My 3 Chihuahua mixes love this food. They digest it well and stool consistency is better than with other brand I'd tried. More reasonably priced than many other decent quality, small-kibble dry foods. Going to order a larger bag & rigid container to keep it in here on out.

Dogs Love it.
I have 3 dogs and they all love it. Small kibbles are perfect since they are all small dogs.

We prepare cooked food with this added.
We prepare/cook our dogs food to insure he is getting all the nutrients he needs. We add 1/4 cup of this dry food to complete his nutritional needs. He eats heartily and healthily.

Nulo Dog Food
My Frankie has been on Nulo for a while. He likes the food. But instead of lugging around a bag at a local pet store. I ordered on Chewy. It was perfect!!

NULO DRY DOG FOOD
THIS IS THE ONLY FOOD HE WILL EAT, BUT, HE IS ONLY 13 POUNDS (SMALL BREED) AND THIS 14 POUND BAG WILL LAST ABOUT A YEAR. SMALL BREED SHOULD BE A CLUE TO CARRY SMALLER BAGS OF THIS FOOD.
