I have four senior chihuahuas. Three of them are dealing with elevated liver enzymes. The vet suggested Denamarin. She advised giving it with food. All three of them get sick and vomit after taking it. I also tried giving it on an empty stomach and got the same results. I’m not saying this is a bad product, but it didn’t work for my dogs. Just be aware that it may cause vomiting for your pets too.
Great for a big dog but I have a cat. So it has to be ground up and the coating is sticky. Cat owners: we always get shafted. There's got to be a more cat friendly version
Denamarin used to be a little blue pill that had a smooth surface and rounded edge. the new formulation is a brown pill with a beveled edge and not as smooth surface. My dog does not like it at all. I wish the blue version were still available.
My Pomeranian had elevated liver enzymes at age 13. Vet recommended denamarin and he has been taking it daily for over 2 years with significant decrease in labs. He is now 15 and doing excellent thriving and spunky as ever.
I have two senior toy poodles who both need to take a liver supplement for different reasons. Denamarin was the recommended medication in both cases. They have both been on the Denamarin for several months and had good check-ups last time around...that, in itself, is reason for celebration!!!
I first tried giving the pills from the blister pack to my cat with liver disease. He kept throwing up the pill hours later, in tact! The company explained that the blue pills in the blister pack have a special coating which makes it more difficult to break down, and I should try the beige pills that come in the bottle instead. So, I tried the bottle and he still threw them up. I could not give these to him so I can't comment on their effectiveness. I gave three stars because I do like the company and they were very helpful in trying to solve the vomiting issues. Unfortunately, my cat could not keep them down.
Until I get more labwork done on my cat, Aster, it really won't be possible to know how effective this is. Meanwhile, it gives me some peace of mind to know I'm doing SOMEthing for her, based on the recommendations of others.
It's comforting to know that my dog's Denamarin will arrive on schedule, exactly as requested! I had a hard time finding the Denamarin in my dog's strength, even from my dog's vet! I saw that I could set this up on auto-ship with Chewy and never have to worry about finding it again. It's nice to know that my dog's liver supplement will automatically arrive. I also really like the advance notice that I get from Chewy about a week before it ships. Thanks for such great service!
My cat has been taken Denamarin for the past 2 years. It has literally saved her life, bringing her liver readings into a normal range from the high 400's. One pill dropped into the back of her throat each day and she swallows it with no problem. As long as you have a cooperative cat I high recommend this product.
I bought this for my puppy after discovering that he has liver shunt. Originally, his tests showed high levels for his liver enzymes and after a month of being on this medication, he tested again and his enzyme levels have decreased. We still have a journey to complete but we are hopeful that this product will assist him. He won't take the pill by itself so I give it to him with a little bit of peanut butter.
